Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I am really looking forward to
2017 and the next months of the school year along with getting to
know all the students of the Minitonas Early Years’ School much
better. I feel the staff and students here at MEYS comprise a much
larger family as they move from Kindergarten to Grade 4 and then
connect to the Middle School for Grades 5 – 8. I am really enjoying
making the family connections of siblings at MEYS and MMYS and
new kids as well. The quality of people in all various positions here
is exceptional and I am proud to be joining all of them helping your
children learn and become citizens of Minitonas and the Valley.
Despite the past 16 years I have taught at the Middle Years’ School in
both academics and athletics, I have a lot to learn about how the Early
Years’ system works and looking forward to that challenge along the
way. Please feel free to call the school if you have any questions or
concerns or drop by the school for a visit, but please call ahead to
make sure I am in the building. Thanks again and looking forward to
meeting all of you in the future!
Sincerely,
Mark Simpson

Eating Better for Families:

Start the day with a healthy breakfast. It refuels your
body and gives you energy for the day.
 Let kids help plan one meal each week and eat together
as often as possible.
 Eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register
that you are full.
 Eat more vegetables and fresh fruits. Aim for a total of
2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables every day.
 Eat more whole grains (e.g., oats, brown rice, rye,
crackers, whole-wheat pasta). Try to eat at least 3 ounces of whole grains every day.
 Drink plenty of fluids. Choose water, low-fat or non-fat
milk and low calorie or diet beverages.
 Keep a variety of snacks in the house, such as fresh
fruit, vegetables, whole-grain cereals and crackers. Try
lower calorie or lower fat foods, like baked chips, reduced-sugar cereals or low-fat dressings.
 Children imitate their parents, so set a good example by
eating healthy foods.
The Grade 4 class will be heading to the
S.V.R.S.S. on Wed., Feb. 1st for “My Vision 4
Me”. They will be spending the day touring the
different vocational areas of the school such
as cooking, technology, power mechanics, hair
dressing, visual arts, wildlife, etc.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the grade
4 students to experience all the different
vocational classes offered in the S.V.R.S.S.
More information will be sent home at a later
date.
