DIRECTIONS: Below is a cumulative review of the chemistry unit. All questions must be answered
using complete sentences. Reviews completed and corrected entitle students to use their notes for
the last five minutes of the quiz. The review is due either Tuesday, September 6 with a quiz on
Thursday, September 8. Students are to study for their quiz 20 minutes each night prior to the quiz

SHORT ANSWER: Answer each of the following questions using proper terms and complete sentences.
1. What is physical science? What are the two main branches of physical science?
2. What is an object? What is an object made of? What are the two types of properties?
3. What is all matter made of? What are the three subatomic particles? Where are neutrons located in
an atom? In the picture, fill in the letters for each energy level and the number of electrons that go in
each level.
4. What is a molecule? What holds atoms together to form molecules?
5. What is a chemical formula? If the chemical formula for sugar is C6H12O6, then what are the letters in
the formula related to and what do the numbers tell you?
6. What are the three main types of molecular matter? How is an element different from a compound?
ATOMIC MODELS: Use the information in the squares of the periodic table to determine the number of protons,
electrons and neutrons, and then complete the atomic model for each element using your information.
