(1) During occupation by the Axis powers (1941 – 1944) Governor Kyriakos Varvaressos
and Deputy Governor Georgios Mantzavinos followed (according to Mandatory Law
3004, 7/5/1941) the Greek government to London. Occupation-era governments in
Greece fired Kyriakos Varvaressos and Georgios Mantzavinos in 1941 and appointed
first Miltiades Negrepontis as Governing Counsellor (24/4 – 3/7/1941) and then
Demetrios Santis (3/7/1941– 20/1/1943) and Theodoros Tourkovassilis (19/4/1943 –
13/4/1944) as Governors. Nevertheless, after the liberation, all dismissals and
appointments by occupation-era governments concerning members of the Administration
of the Bank of Greece were declared null and void, according to Law 89, 15/1/1945.
