What’s New in Destiny 9.9
Maximize Your Time and Resources with Destiny 9.9
Destiny 9.9 will provide your district with customer suggested improvements to help you maximize your
time and resources. Whether you are managing library resources, textbooks, or other school assets,
Destiny 9.9 will help you do more for your students quickly, efficiently and with fewer resources. From
new email flexibility to site authorization for refunds, this version will help you save time, increase
efficiency and let you spend more time with your students.
Developed from your requests and feedback, some of the improvements you will find in Destiny 9.9
include:
•
Greater email flexibility: Additional configuration options in the Destiny Administrator for
greater email support for Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail.
•
Improved differentiation between library and textbook fines: The Fine History Reports in
Destiny Library Manager and Destiny Textbook Manager provide LM and TB indicators to
better distinguish library material fines from textbook fines.
•
Increased refund processing capability: Destiny Library Manager and Destiny Textbook
Manager sites can generate multiple email refund requests so those responsible for paying
refunds to patrons who return books after an item has been identified as lost and a fine paid.
•
Quicker printing of new patron barcodes: Easily identify - via drop down menu - which new
patron barcodes you want added to a temporary patron list for printing. You will also be able to
see how many patrons are on the overall list.
•
Enhanced reporting on items checked out during the day: This report lists call number (LM
only), barcode, title, patron name and patron barcode. The list is sorted by time and starts with
the 1st checkout of the day. The total number of items is also shown at the bottom of the report,
making it convenient for you to check circulation trends.
•
Convenient printing of Lexile, AR and RC labels: If you currently subscribe to a Reading
Program Service, you can now print your labels based on the last time you updated them on preapproved Follett Software label stock – saving you time and money.
•
Quickly update textbook due dates: Easily create a global update in Destiny Textbook Manager
to correct or modify the due dates of your textbooks.



A new “Select by” option has been added to the patron barcode label report so you can create a
temporary list of patrons who require barcodes by searching for and selecting the patrons.

Email Notices

All Modules
Additional configuration options have been added to “SMTP Settings” to allow use of third party SMTP
servers. This enables Destiny’s notices to be emailed using Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail.

District Cataloger – Resource List

Destiny Library Manager
The district cataloger’s resource list capabilities have been expanded to include the ability to add titles to
a resource list based on the date the title was added. Additionally, the district cataloger has the option to
export titles based on a resource list.

District Cataloger – eBooks Import

Destiny Library Manager
When the district cataloger imports eBooks they can be assigned to specific schools within the district.
This controls where the eBooks are displayed in search results which in turn limits which schools have
access to them.

Remove eBooks

Destiny Library Manager
If a school no longer wants particular eBooks included in search results, the eBooks can be removed
from the display by adding the titles to a resource list and electing to export and delete the titles.

Due Dates – Global Update

Destiny Textbook Manager
The ability to find all textbooks with a certain due date and to assign a new due date has been added to
the circulation options within Textbook Manager. A preview of the global update ensures that the
changes being requested are reviewed prior to the actual changes being made.

If you assign a due date to a large number of textbooks and then realize it was an incorrect due date, you
can now change all of the due dates at once.

Navigate to the By Date subtab.
Enter the current due date into the Find all textbooks with due date field.
Then enter the new due date into the Assign new due date field.
Click the Preview button.
The Job Manager launches.
Click Refresh until the View button appears.
The Job Summary appears showing a list of the textbook due dates that will be changed.
If all the changes are acceptable, scroll to the bottom of the Job Summary and click the Update
button.

Copy Transferred – Barcode Retained

Destiny Textbook Manager
In previous versions of Destiny Textbook Manager fine-specific information did not include the barcode
number for items that had been transferred to another school. This was true for reports as well as the
fine-specific information seen in Circulation. This has been changed to retain the barcode number even
after the item has been transferred.


Destiny Media Manager
The “Book Now” option has been enhanced to use the loan period defined in Media Policies. However,
if the loan period is different from those defined, there is the ability to adjust the date.

Reading Program Labels for Subscribers of Reading Program Services

Destiny Library Manager
If you are a subscriber to the Reading Program Service for Accelerated Reader®, Reading Counts!® or
Lexiles®, then you will be able to print labels that include the reading program information. Due to the
custom nature of the label stock required, it will be available on Destiny Express for your convenience.

It is recommended to make updates to the Reading Program prior to printing the labels. You can print
new or replacement labels for a site using the Reading Program Labels report.

You can include Accelerated Reader Interest Level by selecting the Accelerated Reader Program option.
If you select the Lexile Measures option, make sure they are in the database.
The labels, which must be purchased from Follett Software Company, are available in two sizes. Small
spine labels print 48 labels per page. Two labels are printed for each copy record, allowing you to put
one of the labels on the spine and the other label inside the book. Large labels print 28 per page and can
be put on the inside front or back cover. The label size is determined by the options you choose to
include.
Large label:
The label is in two parts. The barcode and call number is a thin section to help customers easily label the
books.
Small label:
You can choose to sort the labels and include copies based on the default options or select from the
drop-down list, which includes details about when the Reading Program information was added or
updated.




In the Full MARC Editor and the “Easy” MARC Editor, Playaway is now included as a subtype for
Sound Recording (non-musical). Playaway material subtype now appears in search results and resource
