November 2008
NFCC has been extra busy with hundreds of
new and returning neighbors seeking help. As
the economy has descended into near chaos,
the bottom has fallen out for many of those
who come in our doors. They come dazed and
unable to comprehend what has happened to
their jobs, their savings, their future. We listen,
we give them food, pay an overdue bill or two
and hope with them that things will improve.
It's a scary time for so many of our neighbors.
NFCC's ability to help depends on the generosity of our community.
We realize there are few of us who have not been impacted by the
declining economy. However, donations to NFCC continue at near
record pace. We see people digging deeper to donate food and
money and help with the Holiday Program. Some of us may give less
than we could a year ago but more and more are giving. We, at
NFCC, are very grateful for the sacrifice so many of you are making
as you share with NFCC your precious gifts.
November is a time to stop and give thanks. NFCC plans to do just
that at our Annual Community Meeting on Wednesday November 12
at 7:30 a.m. At this meeting we will update you on NFCC's programs
and activities, look back over 25 years of growth and service and
announce our 2008 Partners of the Year. We hope you will come
celebrate with us on November 12 and bring along friends who may
want to know more about NFCC. Please RSVP to Jane at 770-6400399 or [email protected].
Thanks for letting NFCC into your busy day.

On October 14
NFCC hosted a
Health Fair for adults
sponsored by
SPARC Atlanta, a
collaboration of
metro providers
including Fulton
County Health
Department,
Department of Aging.
CDC and ARC.
More than 120 adults
took advantage of
the on-site
screenings for
diabetes, glaucoma,
bone scan, HIV,
women's health,
blood pressure,
immunizations, flu
shots, as well as
receiving information
on affordable
prescriptions and
healthy eating.
NFCC's office is bustling with holiday plans. As of
November 1 we have 947 families who have
qualified for holiday assistance and more are
signing up every day. Parents have written a letter
about their family and we've helped them make a
list of their children's Christmas wishes. Today we
have enough sponsors to serve 540 of these
families. More sponsors are needed to fill these
families' wishes. Matches are being made now. Thanksgiving food and
gifts for the Santa Shop are also needed. For more details check out
our website: www.nfcchelp.org/holidays. You can sign up to help right
from the website.
The best news is that we have
secured a place for our Holiday
Distribution Center. The great
folks at Branch Properties have given us access to the lower level of the
former Burlington Coat Factory at Roswell Town Center at Holcomb
Bridge and Alpharetta Highway. We can hardly believe our good
fortune. Never in all the years we have had the Holiday Program have
we identified a location so early and never has it been so perfect. It's
central to our community, has great parking and plenty of space for our
volunteers to work.

On a crisp Saturday morning 320 families
lined up at Roswell's Waller Park to select
"new" winter jackets, hats and mittens. The
first in line arrived at 3:20 a.m. armed with
blankets and folding chairs. By 8:00 a.m.
the line snaked around the parking lot and
almost to the baseball field. With dozens of
volunteers from Kimberly Clark, North Point Community Church, Young
Men's Service League, Blessed Trinity High School, Mt Pisgah United
Methodist and Roswell Presbyterian among others, each family was
escorted into the gym overflowing with donated coats. Volunteers held
babies and re-supplied racks while the adults and children tried coats
on and made their selections.
By noon we had distributed well over 1,500 coats. Extra coats were
transported to NFCC where families who were unable to come on
Saturday can use their Vouchers for free coats in the Thrift Shop.
Thanks to all the schools, neighborhoods, congregations and
businesses that held special collection drives for coats and to all of you
who donated. This year we had a good selection of coats for everyone
who came. We also had over 500 hand-knit or crocheted hat/mitten
sets by our good friends from Nimble Fingers. Special thanks goes to
the City of Roswell for use of Waller Park for our 15th Annual Warm
Coat Day on October 25th. Click on the photos for larger view.

A Few Words of Thanks from our Neighbors...

Colon Cancer surgery in April and was unable to work
and bills were past due, on special foods, could not drive and
NFCC was there for me. I received awesome help and referrals
for help and the staff was very compassionate, helpful and
understanding. . . . . Dorsella
I feel that your services to the community are
beautiful. God willing later in life once I am stable, I
hope to be able to do for others as you all have done for
my family. Thanks, Najla
May God prosper those who give to charity. I am very
thankful for the help you have given my family. .....

Plan now to join us for food, fun, and festivities on Saturday, March 7,
2009 at the Alpharetta Marriott as we host our annual 2009 Calabash
Cotillion. The Jesters, Athens' finest beach party band, will help us to
"shag" the night away.

North Fulton Community Charities' mission is to prevent homelessness in North Fulton by supporting
families in their home during short-term emergencies. By pooling the resources of local religious,
