Mount Alvernia Hospital’s
Community Outreach Programme
For the first time, Yellow Ribbon Project
partnered Mount Alvernia to provide
complimentary health screening to Halfway
Houses (HWHs). On 14 Feb 2015, Mount
Alvernia gave free medical check-ups to
about 57 residents at Pertapis HWH. The
check-up included BMI, blood pressure,
blood glucose and blood cholesterol.
In May, the same health screening services
were extended to Jamiyah HWH. This
partnership will continue throughout 2015,
covering six other HWHs, including families
of ex-offenders. This health assessment will
help ex-offenders take the first step towards
early prevention against major illnesses.
Yellow Ribbon Fund Charity Gala 2015

Fund, the Charity Gala was held on 29 May

generous corporations and individuals will
be used to support future programmes to
benefit the families of the incarcerated. The

Bringing
inmates’ hopes
and aspirations
through art
to the
community.
“Always on My Mind” is lovingly
painted by an offender from the Visual
Arts Hub, Changi Prison Complex using
mixed mediums on paper. This painting
depicts a picture of an inmate’s memory
of his lovely daughter. He is missing his
young daughter. He misses her antics
and the times he gets to hold and
watch her grow up. Now his awareness
is failing him; the hands in flames show
that his memory is fading. He is aware
that he has to reorder his life so he may
be with someone he loves. An inmate’s
self-awareness is important. When he
is aware of his position, the state he is
in, things he loses or lacks, he will push
himself to seek the changes that make
him a better person.
The Yellow Ribbon Art Adoption
Programme provides an avenue for
inmates to express their dreams and
hope. Public members may adopt the
artwork made by the inmates through
YR events and online art gallery.
