The giraffe is one of the world‟s tallest animals. They are known for their long necks,
long legs and spotted body. Giraffes have small horns at the top of their heads that grow
to be about 13 centimetres. These knobs are used to protect from enemies.
Male giraffes are taller than female giraffes and can stand nearby 19 feet tall. Most
giraffes can live up to 25 years of age in the wild. They like to roam in savannas
(grasslands) of Africa. African savannas are mainly dry and are covered with grass. With
the giraffe‟s neck being so long, they are able to eat from tall acacia trees. Giraffes can
go many days without drinking water and can live by eating wet leaves. How many days
