Characteristics
Lactated Ringer’s Solution has a similar electrolyte composition as the extracellular fluid. The
lactate ion is gradually metabolised and converted to bicarbonate in a concentration also resembling that of extracellular fluid. Additionally the
lactate ion exerts a slightly alkalinising effect.
