Ideas and Concepts in Social Work and Social Policy
Innhold
Emnet anlegger et begrepsmessig og idéhistorisk perspektiv på sosialt arbeid og sosialpolitikk
som kunnskapsfelt og institusjonell praksis.
Emnet består av tre tematiske hovedkomponenter:
 Sentrale metodiske tilnærminger til studiet av begreper og idéer
 Sentrale fagtradisjoner innenfor sosialt arbeid og sosialpolitikk.
 Utvikling av kjernebegreper innenfor sosialpolitikk og sosialt arbeid.

Etter å ha fullført emnet skal studenten ha følgende kunnskaper og ferdigheter:
Kunnskap
Studenten har
 kunnskap om og innsikt i ulike metodiske tilnærminger i studiet av begreper og ideer
og har oversikt over hovedlinjene i den metodologiske debatten om studiet av idéer
og begreper
 fordypet kunnskap om og innsikt i sentrale fagtradisjoner i sosialpolitikk og sosialt
arbeid
 fordypet forståelse for sentrale begreper og ideer i fagfeltet sosialt arbeid og
sosialpolitikk
Ferdigheter
Studenten kan
 reflektere over og formidle fagfeltets idéhistoriske utvikling
 analysere og formidle sentrale ideer og begreper innen fagfeltet sosialt arbeid og
sosialpolitikk
 vurdere ulike metoder i studier av begreper og idéer innen fagfeltet
Organisering og arbeidsmåter
Undervisningen er lagt opp som en kombinasjon av forelesninger, diskusjoner og
studentfremlegg der klassiske tekster drøftes og aktuell forskning presenteres.
Arbeidskrav
Aktiv deltakelse i undervisning er en forutsetning for en utviklende fagforståelse. Studentene
skal legge fram analyser av pensum og andre tekster og delta i diskusjonen i undervisningen.
Obligatorisk nærvær i undervisningen vil dermed være et krav. Emneansvarlig kan i enkelte
og særlige tilfeller akseptere unntak fra nærværskravet.
Vurdering
Et essay på mellom 12-15 sider skal leveres senest 2 måneder etter at undervisningen i
emnet er avsluttet. Emneansvarlig vurderer essayet. Godkjent essay tilsvarer 10 studiepoeng.
Dersom essayet ikke kan godkjennes, kan studenten levere inn et bearbeidet essay én gang
innen et nærmere angitt tidspunkt.
Pensum
Totalt ca 1000 sider.
I tillegg legger ph.d.-studenten opp 300 sider valgfritt pensum som skal godkjennes av
emneansvarlig.
