 Clothing Loca on/ Place/ Region The Iroquois original home land was in the North East culture region, upstate New York between the Adirondack Mountains and Niagara Falls. They now live in New York, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Canada, and southern Quebec. Iroquois men wore breech cloths with long leggings. Women wore wraparound skirts with shorter leggings. The people also wore moccasins on their feet and heavy robes in the winter. Iroquois men did most of the hun ng, and shoo ng of deer, elk, and fished in the rivers. Fun Facts Iroquois means “People of the Longhouse.” There were six different languages spoken by them. Most of their people speak English today, but some, especially the elders, speak the Na ve languages of their own tribe. Movement The Indians used elm-bark or dug out canoes, but usually preferred to travel by land. In the winter, people used laced shoes and sleds to travel through the snow.
