A working knowledge of how transportation and construction noise and vibration is generated, propagates, and can be measured and modeled is necessary. An understanding of architectural and/or building acoustics is a plus. The position requires an understanding of federal, state and local government noise regulations, particularly as they are applicable to highway (FHWA), rail transit (FRA/FTA) and/or power generation projects. The candidate will be expected to be able to quantify noise and vibration emissions through computation and computer modeling, perform field measurements, and understand National and unique state regulations and guidelines pertaining to specific projects. These skills will be used to provide analyses on projects such as: FRA Northeast Corridor Future Tier 1 EIS FRA Chicago to St. Louis HSR EIS NYC 520 West 41st Street Development EIS Harvard Science Center Construction Noise Rt. 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridge Underwater Noise Johnson Controls Rooftop Units Vibration Control Calpine Garrison Energy Plant Experience Required: 1. The successful candidate will have worked on projects similar to those listed above or possess similar skill sets obtained from education or training. 2. A minimum of three years of experience in acoustics, environmental engineering, transportation systems or equivalent specific coursework. 3. A basis understanding of the physics of acoustics and definitions used in the industry. 4. Previous experience with the use of sound and/or vibration measurement instrumentation is a plus. 5. Experience with the FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM), FTA/FRA’s rail transit noise and vibration models and sound propagation equations. Knowledge of the Cadna-A or SoundPlan 3D noise models is a plus. 6. Experience with MicroStation and GIS programs is highly desirable. 7. Familiarity with the development and preparation of technical studies/reports is a plus. Education/Skills Required: 1. A Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Meteorology, Physics, or related field is required. 1 2. Ability/willingness to work in the field to collect noise/vibration data during daytime and/or nighttime periods. 3. The candidate must be able to work under supervision both independently and within a team. 4. Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are necessary. 5. The ability to communicate with clients and staff, plus excellent writing skills are required. The successful candidate will be requested to provide prior samples. 6. Ability to work in the United States immediately is required. 7. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by one of the 50 US states is required.
