Alamance T oday April 2017 From the Board Welcome to springtime! There is a lot going on at our Club this spring. Please refer to the newsletter and the alerts that are being sent to all members concerning those activities. I hope all of you are using Clubster. It is a great way to keep up with what is going on around the Club. Our clubhouse renovation is right on schedule. The demolition is complete. Right now there is nothing to see but bare walls and ceilings. We continue to remind all that the Clubhouse is a hard hat area and ask that we do not go into the construction area. Jonathan will be hosting tours through the construction areas once the improvements take shape and it is safe to enter the construction area. Ray Womack Club President Don’t forget to read Jonathan’s comments for more details on the construction project. He also gives great information on other happenings at the Club. Club President Ray Womack, From the General Manager Greetings Alamance Country Club, Jonathan Spence General Manager With the advent of warmer months approaching, our Executive Chef Terri Ahlgren and her culinary team will launch a brand new spring menu in the Donald Ross Grill on Saturday, April 1st. We encourage everyone to come out with your family and friends to delight in Chef Terri’s fun and lively approach to all things epicurean. In other news, TGIF Jazz Night is back with live entertainment on Friday nights, and a new cocktail feature menu is available with some exciting selections for our members to compliment your meal. This month we happily celebrate with a special Easter Sunday lunch menu and an exciting Easter Egg Hunt for the kids. For more information about these and other April dining events, please refer to the event and calendar sections of this month’s newsletter. Dining Reservations | Dining reservations have long been a topic of discussion and I am excited to say that we will begin taking reservations for the Donald Ross Grill on April 1. Our goal is to offer a seamless dining experience for our members. A reservation system also assists the club staff in preparation and planning of our dining service. Most importantly, it allows our members the comfort of knowing that a table will be ready upon arrival. Here’s a brief snapshot of how this system will work: - Lunch and dinner reservations may be confirmed by calling the club’s main phone line at 336.584.0345 - Specific tables may be requested, but not reserved - The club will continue to accommodate dining walk-ins, but confirmed reservations will be awarded priority seating Construction Update | Last month, the club secured the building permit for our clubhouse renovation. Samet, the construction company executing the club’s project, has wrapped up the demo phase which involves removing ceiling tiles andresurfacing dry wall of the Club Administrative Offices, Saddle Club Lounge, Wedgewood Room and Magnolia Room. Other areas of the clubhouse such as the upstairs kitchen, the Heritage Room, Alamance Ballroom and Terrace Room will also see dramatic and much needed enhancements. We will continue to do more detailed construction updates via email blast as the project moves forward. Our Design Committee continues to work hard in reviewing furniture and room design/layouts with the help of the Walter Robbs Design firm from Winston Salem to deliver a clubhouse renovation that will make ACC members proud. At this current stage of the project, Samet remains confident that we are on target to open the clubhouse by October 1, 2017. Aquatics | In addition to our clubhouse renovation, the club also has a few ongoing capital projects in 2017. Due to some aging and usage, we are repairing and re-painting the surface of the main pool surface. We anticipate this project to be finished well before our Memorial Day opening. Additionally, the club will soon be launching an update on our summer pool event series, kids’ camp programs and a new menu for the poolside grill. As always, I am at your service and I wish all of you a Happy Easter Holiday! Warmest regards, 2 Jonathan Alamance Today - March 2017 Membership After the newsletter went to print last month, our Board approved dropping the Initiation Fee to $4,000 for a limited time while the Clubhouse is under construction. I have set a personal goal of 50 new members before October 1, 2017. We have already had two join this month. While we currently have 20 prospective members in the pipeline, we need many more to reach our goal. Our current members are truly our best marketing source. If you are not aware, we are very limited on our ability to advertise for memberships by our tax status. We are not permitted to run ads in publications or have billboards. We do a weekly and very strategic direct mailing based on new home buyers where we scrub the list based on estimated income and the value of the home. Again, our current members are truly our Leanna Giles best marketing source. In fact, we are offering you a $500 house credit for sponsoring a new member. Membership Director Please utilize the electronic form titled “Turn In a Prospective Member” that was emailed to you. If you would like to entertain a prospective member, please reach out to me and I will be happy to make the arrangements for you. The course was greening up especially the south facing fairways and rough areas. We all know how March weather can be. The second week of March gave us several very cold morning lows. As a result all the warm season grass that were coming out of dormancy was put back to sleep hopefully for just a few weeks. It will be a while before we know if there will be any turf loss due to the low temperatures. Lets hope that when it warms up it will stay that way. We have spent the past four weeks trimming trees. We worked in areas that we have not been in for several years. Our main concern is to remove dead and broken branches and to up-lift the canopy to allow better sunlight through. There are several dying trees that will need to come out. I had Rhett Davis with me as we went around the course in early March. He showed me what to look for when diagnosing a problem tree. We found several and marked them with red paint. Our next big project will be to aerify greens 4/10 - 4/11 and then dry ject on Thursday 4/13. The course will be closed that day in order to get the work done. We will open back up on Friday 4/14. Tennis Spring is finally here and all of the courts are in great playing condition. We would love for you to come out and hit a few balls, take a lesson or clinic, or just watch some great tennis. We also have a calendar of events scheduled for this upcoming season. Our Junior Clinics are in full swing, and the ladies group is a smash. We also have the latest racquets from Wilson and Yonex for you to demo. Please contact the Tennis Shop if you would like to reserve a court or the ball machine. We look forward to seeing you on the courts! As a reminder, our Quick Start clinics are structured for kids to learn, rally and play in a way that is both enjoyable and rewarding. We also have customized equipment and courts, so they are sized appropriately for kids and make the game more fun. The shorter and narrower courts give kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court. Racquets are smaller and lighter. Kids have trouble controlling full-sized racquets because they are too long, too heavy, and the grips are too large. • Quick Start racquets are proportionate in length and weight, and have the grips that fit smaller hands allowing for more control (21”, 23”. 25”). • Balls bounce at a height equal to kids’ playing abilities which provides for better and longer rallies and allows kids to build all-court games (Red, Orange, Green). ACC Tennis offers three Quick Start programs suited to fit the age and skill of your child. Please contact Stefan to register and for an age/skill assessment. Begins Tuesday, March 7th Red Robins (ages 5-7) Tuesdays - 3:45pm - 4:30pm Fee: $10 per clinic Begins Tuesday, March 7th Orange Tigers (ages 8-10) Tuesdays - 4:30pm - 5:30pm Fee: $12 per clinic Begins Thursday, March 9th Green Geckos (ages 11-12) Thursdays, 4:00pm - 5:15pm Fee: $14 per clinic Junior Play Day | Saturdays | 9:30am - 10:30am | Ages 8 and Up All juniors ages 8 and up are encouraged to come out on Saturday mornings from 9:30am - 10:30am for organized play and games. Juniors will be separated by age and skill level, and will participate in fun on-court competition and match play. This is not a teaching clinic, but more of a play clinic. Players should be able to rally with their appropriate level ball (red, orange, green).
