IT Solutions for Smart Cities
After the thundering success of the Smart Village project, covering more than
3 million square meters in the year 2003, similar projects came into light with
the objective of establishing unique urban communities in terms of the service
level. Some of those projects are Al Kharafi Group project in Marsa Alam, Red
Sea Governorate and the American University in the Fifth Settlement, New
Cairo. Those projects are followed with other several Egyptian and Pan Arab
projects in Al Mokatem, the Northern Coast and Hurghada in the Red Sea.
Moreover, on the Arab level, there are a number of successful models such
as King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia as well as tourist facilities and
smart hotels in UAE.
Those urban communities are characterized with providing outstanding services
to their inhabitants in terms of advanced hi-tech arrangements and administrative
procedures. They are also characterized by being energy-saving and with an
integrated digital infrastructure starting from digital security and safety systems,
controlled automation of consumption, flow of various forms of energy to water
usage and environment control systems. They also require highly accurate
tracking control systems due to the presence of special codes that control
smart building operations and give warning signals in case of any malfunctions
or discrepancies.
Based on the above and due to Giza Systemsí strong experience in the fields
of communication, utilities, IT solutions and technology services, Giza Systems
is proud to penetrate the sector of Smart Cities. Giza Systems is well equipped
with comprehensive know-how and vast experience to provide hi-tech integrated
IT solutions that fit customers’ requirements and expectations. Giza Systems
was successful in providing integrated industrial applications for the automation
of electricity consumption that automatically follows up, controls and collects
data in an attempt to raise the efficiency of these systems. it also provides
billing solutions and the telecommunication technology needed for serving this
sector. And this will no doubt enable Giza Systems to be one of the leading
companies that provide integrated solutions for new compounds and will
strengthen its ability to be competitive both internally and globally.
"Giza Systems aims to provide integrated IT solutions for the Smart Cities
sector. Those solutions include Infrastructure Control Systems (ICS),
telecommunication, water, electricity and security systems.î stated Eng. Diaa
Al Haaq, Head of Smart Cities Sector, Giza Systems. "Giza Systems is capable
of providing such technological solutions since it is well equipped both
technologically and financially to serve this niche market. Moreover, Giza
Systems seeks to cooperate with leading technology providers in different
smart cities all over the Middle East, especially in Egypt and Saudi Arabia,
where considerable funds are allocated for implementing massive projects
such as Port Ghaleb in Egypt and King Abdulla Economic City in Saudi Arabia
with investments worth of USD 27 billion. î El Haaq added.

held from the 24th to the 26th of February 2009,
in Dubai-UAE. The event brings together telecom
operators, law enforcement, and intelligence
and defense analysts from the EMEA (Europe,
Middle East and Africa) region to discuss
technological security and protection systems
in the telecommunication sector.
"Since most nations of the world require lawful
interception support of Voice over IP (VoIP) and
other IP-based services, ISS Dubai is a crucial
event for Giza Systems. Our company was able
to build valuable relationships with several
telecom-providers in the region and expand our
knowledge base. Our participation this year
ensured offering our clients the most secure and
up-to-date technology available", said Eng.
Ahmed Kamal, General Manager, Telecom
Business Unit, Giza Systems.
During the three-day event, Giza Systems was
able to showcase its solutions for different
sectors including complete IT solutions that
contribute to technological development. Giza
Systems' solutions were well received by the
audience and fostered a number of business
development opportunities. Many challenges
were discussed throughout the conference
related to security in the information technology
sector. The sessions addressed international
best practices and the latest technological
solutions to overcome these challenges.
ISS World MEA 2009 attracted more than
71 countries; mostly from Europe and the Middle East.
Giza Systems sponsored the closing ceremony
of Steps Towards Progress (STP) annual project
that was held in Cairo University on 22 March
2009. STP is a student activity at faculty of
Engineering Cairo University. The organization is
completely managed and organized by students
under the supervision of the faculty of Engineering
professors and administration. The objective of
this organization is to help students acquire new
skills such as; leadership, planning and
communication, aiming to create a new
generation of highly qualified graduates.
Another key objective for STP is to contribute in
developing the Egyptian community. Its mission
is to develop youth in various areas; on the
personal and technical level using value-oriented
systems and through academic programs,
projects, and events. In the end, STP hopes to
take part in providing a generation capable of
playing an effective role towards itself,
community and country.
In the academic years 2007 – 2009, STP
accomplished significant achievements. It was
honored to represent Egypt in the International
Youth Forum (IYF) that was held under the
auspices of Mrs. Suzan Mubarak. Also, STP
successfully delivered more than 6 technical and
non technical workshops and launched their first
online radio “STPADIO” for students’ activities.
A magazine called “STPANZA” was also launched
and is dedicated to envision STP’s vision by
writing different articles and interviews with the
successful candidates.
Giza Systems also sponsored the opening
ceremony of STP where it gave an introductory
corporate presentation and a motivational speech
to all attendees. The objective of this sponsorship
is to contribute in enhancing youth skills and
prepare them to join the job market.

Giza Systems participated in the "World
Perspectives for Sugar Crops as Food and Energy
Suppliers conference held from 1st to the
4th of March 2009 in Luxor, Egypt. The
international conference takes place every two
years with the participation of leading Egyptian
companies in the sugar industry as well as
international technology providers. The event
was sponsored by the International Sugar
Organization (ISO).
Various issues were discussed during the
conference such as the sugar market across the
globe, the Ethanol as it is affected by oil prices
and the role of sugar crops in food security. The
conference also tackled ways to maximize the
use of modern techniques in the sugar industry
and the trends towards optimum utilization of
the remnants of the sugar industry in the
production of Ethanol. Another issue raised was
the different means of supporting the Egyptian
sugar industry and the possibility of pumping
new investments to build new factories for the
production of beet sugar. The aim of
those projects is to fill the gap between
production and consumption, as well
as support the activities of the Sugar Technology
Research Institute (STRI). This is a unique model
for the privileged partnership between Assiut
University and the Egyptian companies for sugar
and paper industries to be one of the outstanding
research centers in the Middle East.
The conference was organized by the Sugar
Technology Research Institute (STRI) at Assiut
University together with the International Sugar
Organization (ISO), Egyptian Sugar Industries
Companies (sugar cane and beet), Sugar Crops
Council, and the Egyptian Food Industries Holding
Company. It was headed by Professor Dr.
Moustafa Mohamed Kamal (President of Assiut
