Teaching
Experience
3
As a Faculty member at Lamar University, I have taught the following courses: College
Algebra for STEM Majors, Calculus II, Calculus III, Modern Algebra I, and Modern Algebra II. I have also served as a mentor to two TALH (Texas Academy of Leadership in
the Humanities) Students, have mentored two graduate students in the Moore Method
Apprenticeship Program, and have directed one Master’s thesis.
As a Visiting Faculty member at Slippery Rock University, I have taught the following courses: Financial Mathematics, Intermediate Algebra, Applied Calculus, Elementary
Mathematics I, Elementary Mathematics II, Elementary Geometry, Math as a Liberal Art,
Discrete Mathematics, Modern Concepts of Mathematics, Elementary Statistics I, Honors
Elementary Statistics I, and Senior Seminar in Mathematics (with a focus on knot theory).
As a Faculty member at Sam Houston State University, I taught the following courses:
College Mathematics; Trigonometry; Business Mathematics; Honors College Mathematics: Knot Theory for non-majors; Calculus I, II, and III; Introduction to Mathematical
Thought; Foundations of Mathematics (for middle school certification); Modern Algebra;
Evolution of Mathematics (i.e., mathematics history); Methods of Research; Advanced
Calculus I and II (calculus on Rn ); Algebraic Topology.
At SHSU, I developed two new courses - a Methods of Research course for upper level
mathematics majors and an Honors Liberal Arts Mathematics Course. The Methods of
Research course requires students to pick a research topic and present it in three forums orally at the Meeting of the Texas Section of the MAA, as a poster at a local conference,
and as a written paper. The Honors Liberal Arts Mathematics Course spends a semester
encouraging non-mathematics majors to study knot theory and complete a project focused
on knots individually “adopted” by each student.
As a visiting professor at University of Nebraska - Lincoln during the IMMERSE program,
I co-taught a graduate level abstract algebra course based on the paper “Reversible Group
Rings” by M. Gutan and A. Kisielewicz.
As a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon I was an independent instructor
for courses including Calculus I and II (for traditional mathematics and science students,
and another course with a focus on Biology; Business Calculus I; Business Statistics; College Algebra; Elementary Functions; University Math I and II (courses for non-math majors); and Fundamentals of Elementary Mathematics I, II, and III (courses for Prospective
Educators).
