Eligibility:
1. Feature-lengthmotionpictures(70minutesorlonger)thathavebeenbothreleasedand
screenedfortheactivemembershipinthegreaterLosAngelesareaduringthequalifying
year(January1throughDecember31).
2. Motionpicturesareconsideredreleasedwhentheyaremadeavailableforexhibitionin
theatresoronpay-per-viewcableorpay-per-viewdigitaldeliveryinthegreaterLosAngeles
areaforaminimumseven-dayperiodbeginningpriortomidnight,December31ofthe
qualifyingyear.

Categorydefinitions:
1. Musical:
a. Acomedyoradramainwhichsongsareusedinadditiontospokendialoguetofurther
theplot.
2. Originalsong:
a. Wordsandmusic,bothofwhichareoriginalandwrittenspecificallyforthemotion
picture.Allqualifyingsongsfromamotionpicturemustbesubmitted.
b. TheOriginalSongAwardisgiventotheaccreditedsongwriter(s)forthewinningsong

c. Qualifyingsongswrittenspecificallyforthemotionpicturemaybereleasedseparately

a. Voiceonlyperformancesarenoteligibleinanyactingcategory.
b. Cameoappearancesinwhichapersonplayshim-orherselfarenoteligibleinanyacting
category.
4. BestMotionPictureAwards:
a. TheBestMotionPictureAwardsfortheDramaandMusicalorComedycategoriesare
giventotheindividualproducersaccreditedbytheProducersGuildofAmericaforthose
motionpictures.
b. TheBestMotionPictureAwardfortheForeignLanguagecategoryisgiventothe
accrediteddirectorofthemotionpicture.
c. TheBestMotionPictureAwardfortheAnimatedcategoryisgiventotheoneortwo
individualswhoplayedthemostsignificantrolesinthecreativedevelopmentofthat
motionpicture(generallytheaccrediteddirectorandoneindividualwithaproducer
credit),asdesignatedbythoseresponsiblefortheproductionofthemotionpicture.
d. TheproductionentitiesaccreditedfortheBestMotionPictureineachcategoryreceive
aGoldenGlobestatutefordisplaypurposesonly.
5. AnimatedMotionPictures:
a. Movementandcharacters'performancesmustbecreatedusingaframe-by-frame
technique.Eachanimatedimagemustbecreatedormanipulatedbyananimator
throughhanddrawing,stopmotion,pixilation,animationsoftwareorasimilar
technique.Motioncapturebyitself(withoutthemanipulationframe-by-framebyan
animator)isnotananimationtechnique.
b. Motionpictureswithlessthan75%animationofthemotionpicture’smaincharacters
donotqualifyasanimatedmotionpictures.
c. AnimatedmotionpicturesarenoteligiblefortheBestMotionPicture–Drama,Best
MotionPicture–MusicalorComedyorBestMotionPicture--ForeignLanguageawards.
d. Animatedforeignlanguagemotionpicturesaresubjecttotherelease,eligibilityand
screeningrequirementssetforthbelowforotherforeignlanguagemotionpictures.
e. Iffewerthantwelveanimatedmotionpicturesqualifyinayear,thecategorywillbe
limitedtothreenominationsthatyear.
6. ForeignLanguageMotionPictures:
a. Mustbeamotionpicturedrama,musicalorcomedywithatleast51%non-English
dialogue.Documentariesarenoteligible.
b. Mustbefirstreleasedinitscountryoforiginduringthe14-monthperiodfrom
November1toDecember31priortotheawards.
c. Thecountryoforiginofaforeignlanguagemotionpictureisthecountryoftheentity
creditedfortheproductionofthemotionpicture.Eachmotionpicturemayhave
multiplecountriesoforigin.

d. MaybesubmittedforBestMotionPicture--ForeignLanguageaward(andotheraward)
considerationonlyonce.
e. MotionpicturesthatoriginateoutsidetheUnitedStatesneednothavebeenreleasedin
theUnitedStates.
f. Amotionpicturealsoqualifiesifcensorshippreventeditfrombeingreleasedinits
countryoforigin,butithadaone-weekreleaseintheUnitedStatesduringthe
qualifyingperiod.
g. Thereisnolimittothenumberofforeignlanguagemotionpicturesthatcanbe
submittedfromaspecificcountry.
h. MotionpicturesthatqualifyfortheBestMotionPicture--ForeignLanguageawardalso
qualifyforawardsinallothermotionpicturecategoriesexceptBestMotionPicture-
DramaandBestMotionPicture-MusicalorComedy,whichareexclusivelyforEnglishlanguagemotionpictures.
MotionPictureScreeningRules:
1. AllmembersqualifiedtovoteforGoldenGlobeAwardsmustbeinvitedtoanofficial
screeningoftheeligiblemotionpictureinthegreaterLosAngelesarea.HFPAmemberscan
alsobeinvitedtootherscreeningsofthemotionpicture.
2. Theselectionandrentingofascreeningroomistheresponsibilityoftheproduceror
distributorofthemotionpicture.
3. Screeningsmaytakeplaceatanytimebeforereleaseandmustbecompletedbyoneweek
afterthereleaseofthemotionpictureinthegreaterLosAngelesarea.
4. TheofficialscreeningdatemustbeclearedwiththeMotionPictureAssociationofAmerica
(MPAA)toavoidconflictswithotherofficialscreenings.ContactYuliaDashevskyat818995-6600.TheHFPAofficewillliaisewiththeMPAAtoclearasuitabledate.
5. ThedeadlineforthecompletionofallofficialscreeningsisgivenintheofficialGoldenGlobe
AwardsTimetable.
6. TheofficialscreeningneednotbeexclusivelyforHFPAmembers.Aregularscreeningina
theaterwiththepublic(ifthemotionpictureisalreadyreleased),apressscreening,ora
generalscreeningfulfillstheofficialscreeningrequirement,providedHFPAmembersare
invited.
7. Ingeneral,themotionpicture’sdistributororpublicistsendsinvitationstotheofficial
screeningdirectlytoHFPAmembers.TheHFPAofficewillprovideamembershipdirectory
forthispurpose.
8. Additionalscreeningrulesforforeignlanguagemotionpictures:
a. Foreignlanguagemotionpicturesshouldbescreenedasearlyintheyearaspossibleto
avoidtheendofyearcrush.
b. Foreignlanguagemotionpicturesandanyforeignlanguageanimatedmotionpictures
mustbescreenedintheiroriginallanguagewithEnglishsubtitles.
c. TheHFPAofficecanalsosendinvitationsdirectlytoHFPAmembersforofficial
screeningsofforeignlanguagemotionpicturesthatdonotyethavedistributors.

Television:
Eligibility:
1. Televisionincludesbroadcast,basicandpremiumcableanddigitaldelivery,butdoesnot
includepay-per-viewcableorpay-per-viewdigitaldeliveryofmotionpictures.
2. Onlyprogramsairedduringthequalifyingcalendaryearinprimetime(8:00p.m.–11:00
p.m.MondaythroughSaturdayand7:00p.m.–11:00p.m.Sunday)areeligiblefor
televisionawards.
3. Motionpicturesmadefortelevision,limitedseriesandtelevisionseries(drama,musicalor
comedy)shouldbeenteredineithermotionpictureortelevisioncategories(butnotboth)
basedontheiroriginalreleaseformat.Motionpictures,limitedseriesandseriesreleasedin
theatresoronpay-per-viewintheUnitedStatesatthesametimeasorbeforetheyare
airedonatelevisionformatintheUnitedStatesareeligibleonlyformotionpictureawards.
Showingaprogramatafestivaldoesnotdisqualifyanotherwiseeligibletelevisionprogram.
4. Foreignprogramsarenoteligiblefortelevisionawardsunlesstheyaretheresultofacoproduction(bothfinanciallyandcreatively)betweenaUnitedStatesandaforeignpartner,
whichprecedesthestartofproduction,andwhichincludesacommitmenttoshowthe
programonUnitedStatestelevisionmadepriortothestartofproduction.
5. Realityandothernon-scriptedprogrammingarenoteligibleforanytelevisionaward
category.

4. ActingAwards:
a. Leadcastmembersinatelevisionseries,limitedseriesormotionpicturemadefor
televisionmustbethecentralcharacterswhodrivethenarrativeoftheprogram.
b. Supportingcastmembersinatelevisionseries,limitedseriesormotionpicturemade
fortelevisionmustappearinaminimumof5%oftotalprogramtime.
c. Voiceonlyperformancesarenoteligibleinanyactingcategory.
d. Cameoappearancesinwhichapersonplayshim-orherselfarenoteligibleinanyacting
category.
5. BestTelevisionAwards:
a. TheBestTelevisionAwardsfortheTelevisionSeries–MusicalorComedy,Television
Series–Drama,LimitedSeriesandMotionPictureMadeforTelevisioncategoriesare
giventotheindividualproducersaccreditedbytheProducersGuildofAmericaforthose
televisionprograms.
b. TheproductionentitiesaccreditedfortheBestTelevisionAwardineachcategory
receiveaGoldenGlobestatutefordisplaypurposesonly.

1. Motionpicturesmadefortelevision,limitedseriesandtelevisionseries(drama,musicalor
comedy)mustbemadeavailableinanycommonformattoallactiveHFPAmembers,
preferablyatthetimeoftheirbroadcastbutinnoeventlaterthanthedategiveninthe
officialGoldenGlobeAwardsTimetable.
AwardProcedures:
Registration:
• AnentryformmustbecompletedandreturnedtotheHFPAasearlyaspossible(no
laterthantenworkingdaysaftertheofficialscreeningdateformotionpicture
categories).TobelistedontheofficialHFPAReminderListallentryformsmustbefully
completedandsubmittednolaterthanthedategivenintheofficialGoldenGlobe
AwardsTimetable.TheHFPAwillmakethefinaldeterminationinallquestions
regardingtheeligibilityofentrysubmissionsforeachawardcategory.
Voting:
• OnlyactivemembersvotefortheGoldenGlobeAwards.Thevotingismonitoredbyan
accountingfirmandisdoneintwophases–NominationsandFinalVote.
Nominations:
• Anominationballotwitha“ReminderList”ofqualifyingmotionpicturesandtelevision
programsismailedtoalleligiblemembers,requestingthateachofthemvoteforupto
fivenomineesinorderofpreferenceineachawardcategoryandreturnthecompleted
ballotdirectlytotheaccountingfirm.
• Eacheligiblemembershallmakethefollowingcertificationstotheaccountingfirm:
1) Heorshewasnotemployedby,nordidheorsheserveasanindependent
contractororconsultantto:amotionpicture,radioortelevisioncompany,film
commission,filmfestival(domesticorforeign),ortheiragents,inpublicityor
promotion,production,distributionormarketing,oranyothercapacitynot
specificallysetforthherein.
2) HeorshehasreportedtothePresidentoftheHFPAandErnst&YoungLLPall
instanceswhereheorshehasreceivedgiftsorfavorsfromapotentialentrantinthe
GoldenGlobeAwardscompetitionwithavalueinexcessof$95.
3) Heorshedidnotvoteforanymotionpictureortelevisionprograminwhichheor
she,orhisorherimmediatefamilyorcloserelatives,activelyparticipated(i.e.,asan
actor,director,writerorproducer)duringtheyearunderconsideration.

4) Hisorhervoteswereindependentlyarrivedatandwerenotinfluencedbyanyother
memberoftheHollywoodForeignPressAssociationnoranyawardnominee,studio,
networkorproductionentity.
5) Heorsheisawarethattheenclosedballotwillbeusedasanintegralpartofthe
awardsprocedureofthetelevisedAnnualGoldenGlobeAwards.Thevotescast
reflecthisorherowndecisionsbasedonthecriteriaprovided.Heorshehasnot
receivedorbeenofferedanyconsiderationorinstructionsfromanypersonor
personswithrespecttothemannerinwhichheorshehascastvotes.Heorshe
agreesthatAndySaleoftheaccountingfirmofErnst&YoungLLPat(213)977-3061
orJeffHyltonoftheNBCProgramStandards&PracticesDepartmentat(818)7772618willbenotifiedimmediatelyifanyoneattemptstoinfluencehimorhertodo
anythinginviolationoftheforegoingorwhichisinanywaydishonest.
6) HeorshehascompliedwithallrulesandregulationsoftheHFPA.
7) HeorshehasreportedtothePresidentoftheHFPAandErnst&YoungLLPall
mattersthatmightbethoughttoimpacthisorherabilitytobeafairandimpartial
judge.HeorsheunderstandsthatErnst&YoungLLPwillmakethefinal
determinationastowhetherhisorhervoteswillbeconsideredasaresultofthe
reportedmatters.
8) HeorsheunderstandsthatitisaFederaloffenseunderSection507and508ofthe
CommunicationsActof1934,unlessdisclosedtothestationornetworkpriorto
broadcast,foranyoneto:
a) Giveoragreetogiveanymemberoftheproductionstaff,anyoneassociatedin
anymannerwiththeprogram,oranyrepresentativeofthestationornetwork
anyportionofhisorhercompensationoranythingelseofvalueforarranginghis
orherappearanceontheprogram.
b) Acceptoragreetoacceptanythingofvalue,otherthanhisorherregular
compensationforservicesontheprogram,topromoteanyproduct,serviceor
ventureontheair,oruseanypreparedmaterialcontainingsuchapromotion
whereaparticipantknowsthememberoftheHollywoodForeignPress
Associationreceivedconsiderationforit.
c) Rigorattempttoriginwholeorinpartacontestorawardshow.
9) Heorshecertifiesthatheorshehasnotacceptedcashwhatsoever,norany
valuableconsiderationotherthanthelodgingsandthetokenpromotionalitems
thatarecustomarilyandlegallyfurnishedoncorrespondents’(foreignanddomestic)
promotionalactivitiespriortoreceiptforanyballots.

Thenomineesineachcategorywillbethefiveselectionsineachcategorythatreceive
thegreatestnumberofvotesonthenominationballots.Inordertobreakties,each
membershouldranktheirfivechoicesineachcategoryofthenominationsballot,by
indicatingtheir1stchoice(worth5points),2ndchoice(worth4points),etc.The
accountingfirmwillusethepointsassignedinthenominationrankingsonlyintheevent
ofties.Thenomineesineachawardcategorywillbeannouncedinalphabeticalorderat
thenominationspressconference.
FinalVote:
• Oncethenominationshavebeenannounced,afinalballot,listingthefivenomineesin
eachawardcategoryinalphabeticalorder,ismailedtoalleligiblemembers,requesting
thateachofthemvoteforonenomineeineachcategoryandreturnthecompleted
ballotdirectlytotheaccountingfirm.Incaseofatieinanycategory,thewinnerwillbe
theoneofthetiednomineesonthefinalballotthathadthemostvotesonthe
nominationballot.Intheunlikelyeventthatafterconsideringthenominationballots
thereisstillatieinanycategory,twowinnerswillbeannouncedforthatcategory.
ResultsandAnnouncement:
• Thefinalresultsareknownonlybytheaccountingfirmandarekeptsecretuntilthe
announcementattheGoldenGlobeAwardsceremony.
