Tacoma Musical Playhouse’s Buddy Holly (Matt McClure)
Set to Audition for Lead Role in Upcoming
BUDDY The Buddy Holly Story National Tour in 2016
Tacoma, WA (July 2, 2015): Matt McClure has played Buddy Holly twice - at the
Venice Theatre in Venice, Florida, January 2015, and then again at Tacoma Musical
Playhouse in May 2015 where both theaters performed to sold-out houses.
McClure is not only talented, he’s tenacious. He’s headed to Jersey City, New Jersey
at the end of July. He’s been asked to audition for the upcoming US Non-Equity
National Tour for the part of Buddy Holly in BUDDY The Buddy Holly Story.
The requirements to play the lead in the US National Tour of BUDDY The Buddy
Holly Story: must be between the ages of 18-25, Matt’s 22; dynamic and charismatic,
definitely; desire to lead the company and thrill audiences as the world’s first rock &
roller - absolutely! Matt says that “after watching my reel from the production (at
Tacoma Musical Playhouse), the tour people wanted to give me a shot.”
Several months after performing Buddy Holly at the Venice Theatre Matt, looked at all
the theaters around the country to see who was putting on another Buddy Holly
production. He made calls and found Tacoma Musical Playhouse in need of a Buddy
Holly. Jon Douglas Rake, Managing Artistic Director, talked with the Venice Theatre
asking how well Matt McClure took on the role there and the rest is history. BUDDY
The Buddy Holly Story is one of the best-selling shows in the history of the Tacoma
Musical Playhouse. In fact Rake says we should have had another week or two of
shows but Matt was on to another city, another show playing an entirely different
character.
Now Jersey City is calling and Matt at the end of the month will be on his way or is he?
“Hmmm……now,” he says, “I just need to find a way to get to the most important
audition I've ever had.” Matt needs to travel from Nebraska to New Jersey on a nonequity actor’s salary. He’s now in need of funding for plane tickets, rental car, food,
hotel room all which can get a little pricey for a young up-and-coming actor. So a
friend suggested he create a “GoFundMe page to (hopefully) raise some money to get
myself to New Jersey.” Asking friends and family for “any amount would be amazingly
helpful” McClure states.
When Rake found out about McClure’s request he contacted Matt immediately with an
airplane ticket to his audition. Says Rake, “Matt is part of the TMP family; this is an
amazing opportunity for us to support a very talented actor to pursue his dream. We
wish Matt nothing but the best!”
McClure says “I love each and every person who has helped me make it to where I
already am, and I won’t forget you with where I’m (hopefully) going!
Matt is an amazingly talented actor, one who knows where he’s going and is thankful
to all. Break-a-leg Matt! We hope to see you as Buddy Holly, one more time!
