HUMAN LIFE IS SACRED—RESPECT LIFE Annual ‘Volunteer Appreciation Dinner’/ 150th Anniversary On Sunday, March 2, 2014, Fr Stirniman and the Parish Council will host the ‘Volunteer Appreciation Dinner’ during this 150th Anniversary year. The dinner begins at 4 pm in Harkrader Hall. We strongly encourage anyone and everyone (and their families) who has donated their “time and talent” to the parish this past year of 2013 to attend. Some volunteer examples include: liturgical ministry (lectors, ushers, EMHCs, servers, sacristans, etc), music ministry, church cleaners and decorators, campus maintenance (mowers, snow shovelers, gardeners, etc), ‘Family Formation’ catechists and volunteers, church committee members, teachers & volunteers from St Louis School, CCW & KofC volunteers, bakers & workers at funeral luncheons, Our Table, and/or fish fries, Bible Study leaders, etc, etc, etc...too many to mention! If we missed you on the list, know that YOU are invited! This is our Thank You to all who keep our church vibrant. ‘Ash Wednesday’ Masses ~ The season of Lent begins on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Masses for Ash Wednesday will be held at 7 am, 8:05 am (Children’s Mass), and at 5:15 pm. Attention All Parish Group Organizers ~ In planning ahead for the next few months, please be mindful of Lent, and in particular of Holy Week—April 13-19th. Our activities should reflect the tone and posture of the Church’s Liturgical Season. No social activities should be scheduled during Holy Week. CCW February Meeting ~ Faith in Action is the theme for our next meeting on Tuesday, February 25th beginning at 6 pm. Colleen Yucus will be our guest speaking, sharing how walking in faith can lead you to unexpected places, resulting blessings and joy beyond our wildest imagination. Haiti Medical Mission Update ~ Again we ask for your prayers as the medical mission team for our “sister” parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in LaMontagne, Haiti, leaves on February 28th thru March 14th. Your prayers and gifts bring about a better life for the poor. Our parish family has provided many every day, basic items that are needed, but also have helped the school children of St Mark’s with a great Catholic religious education. This year 14 team members are going to treat close to 4,000 patients in a two-week time span. Our thanks and prayers go out to the parishioners of St Louis! God bless you all! ~ Bill Phalen. FEBRUARY 23, 2014 Food Pantry Weekend ~ The Knights of Columbus will be collecting nonperishable food items and monetary donations this weekend, February 22 & 23, for the Bureau County Food Pantry. The Pantry is in need of "everything," according to the staff. Always in need is: breakfast cereal, peanut butter, canned fruit, pasta/rice, paper products and personal care items. The poor weather has really had a negative impact on donations. Please donate if you are able to help the hungry in our community. • Early Dismissal for P/T Conferences ~ SLS will dismiss at ‘Our Table’ ~ St Louis will be furnishing a meal for Our Table, 11:50 am on Friday, February 28th for Parent/Teacher Monday, March 10th.
