Lighting Ceremony every Christmas, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

SHOPPING
Less than a mile from Kirkwood Orange, and
accessible by bus, is the Village at Orange (1500
E. Village Way, 0.7 miles). The mall contains more
than 50 shops, including Sears, JCPenney, Walmart
and CVS. A Target is located across the street from
the mall.
The Outlets at Orange (20 City Boulevard , 5.6
miles), which features more than 120 outlet shops
for such retailers as Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom
Rack and H&M, is just six miles away. The open-air
mall also has a Dave & Buster’s and an AMC 30
movie theater complex with IMAX.
Orange is also known for its antique shops, with
more than 60 dealers at the Old Towne Orange
Plaza (134 S. Glassell Street, 3.0 miles).
DINING
Most of the dining scene in Orange is centered
around Old Towne. Its centerpiece is the famous
Watson Drugs and Soda Fountain (116 E. Chapman
Ave., 3 miles), which has been in business since

NATURE
There’s plenty of natural beauty to be found
throughout Orange County. Newport Beach, which
is 16 miles from Kirkwood Orange, has a boardwalk
with many restaurants and shops, a nautical
museum and an annual Christmas Boat Parade.
Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona Del Mar
(17 miles) is a 2.2-acre botanical retreat, with
several gardens displaying plants and flowers from
around the globe, and a tropical conservatory with
a koi pond. A cafe offers lunch during the week
and brunch on the weekends, plus afternoon tea
on the last Wednesday of every month.
Located in Irvine, 14 miles from Kirkwood Orange,
is Orange County Great Park. Its most famous
attraction is the hot air balloon ride that rises 400
feet, offering views of up to 40 miles. The park
also has recreational fields, a carousel, reflecting
ponds, an arts complex with an outdoor performance
area and a walkable historical timeline.
TOP ATTRACTIONS
Held over Labor Day Weekend, the International
Street Fair shows off the cultural diversity of Orange
County. With more than 40 food and drink vendors,
arts and crafts booths, eight music stages and activities
for kids, the International Street Fair is one of the
annual highlights of the city.
ENTERTAINING
GRANDCHILDREN
Orange County Zoo, located seven miles from
Kirkwood Orange within the 477-acre Irvine Regional
Park (1 Irvine Park Road), features primarily animals
and plants that are native to the Southwest. This
includes black bears, island foxes, ocelots, mountain
lions, porcupines and coyotes. For children, there is
also a barnyard and designated story times under the
oak trees.
Kirkwood Orange is only five miles from
Disneyland, which is in Anaheim across the Santa
Ana River from Orange.
In addition to Disneyland, world-class sports can
also be found on the other side of the river. The Los
Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who have been one
of the most consistently successful Major League
Baseball teams of the 21st century, play at Angels
Stadium (2000 E. Gene Autry Way, 4.3 miles). The
Anaheim Ducks hockey team, which calls the Honda
Center home (2695 E. Katella Ave., 2.8 miles), won
the Stanley Cup in the 2006-07 season.
The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana (2002 N. Main
St., 5 miles) is home to more than 120,000 works
of art. Its permanent collection includes art from
Native Americans, the Pacific islands, Africa and preColumbian times.
