Postcards from the 13 Colonies
You now have a lot of information about each of the 13 English Colonies in
America. Your assignment is to choose one colony from each region and take on
the role of a settler who lived there. You are going create a postcard and write a
short message back to a family member in England describing your life in each of
these colonies. Here are the requirements:
1. Draw a picture on the front of the post card that shows something about
that colony (a map of the colony, some of the products from the colony,
etc. )
2. Label the picture with the name of the colony
3. On the back write a message to someone back in Europe that includes the
following things:
a. Why you decided to leave Europe and settle in this colony
b. Describe one challenge you are facing as you adjust to life in this
colony and explain how it is affecting the people in your colony
c. Describe how you are making a living in this colony using the
information about the products, crops, and industries in your colony
I am living in the colony of Massachusetts
hoping to get religious freedom. As a
Puritan, I was not allowed to worship freely
in England so I have come to America to
practice the religion I want. We have
struggled to grow enough food to feed
everyone in our colony. A lot of my
neighbors have died from these food
shortages. I have found a job as a
fisherman and I am making enough money
to support my family.
