PRESS RELEASE - JUNE 2016
ROPEWAY TRANSPORT AND SUSTAINABLE CITIES:
POMA SIGNS A PARTNERSHIP WITH WWF FRANCE
The French group POMA—major player in ropeway transportation—is entering into a three-year
partnership with WWF France, the World Wide Fund for Nature. The objective of this collaboration
is to develop ropeway transportation in becoming a genuine solution for urban mobility.
Cities are the new biotope of humanity and must be rethought to reduce their environmental footprint, all
while guaranteeing well-being for everyone. Convinced by the potential for cities to be a driving force against
climate change, the WWF is conducting a host of initiatives that mobilize the entire playing field: citizens,
public authorities, institutions and businesses. Representing 14% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and
27,6% of the french greenhouse gas emissions, the urban mobility sector is key in rethinking tomorrow’s city
with a lower carbon footprint.
WWF France and POMA have chosen to work together on developing the potential of ropeway transportation
in the urban jungle and supporting future projects for urban mobility in France.
Reducing the carbon footprint of POMA’s installations and contributing to the development of ropeway
transportation as a tool in urban mobility inside “sustainable cities” are two of the company’s major objectives.
WWF France will provide POMA support in two ways: through their 360° view of urban ropeway transportation,
they will help POMA teams think outside the box and will also be a key contributor to concrete projects.
Their experts will participate in each step of POMA’s urban projects to support and push for even higher
environmental ambitions.
POMA and WWF France teams have already worked together to draw up and implement a road map for
the year to come. POMA and WWF will work together in defining shared messages on sustainable ropeway
transportation and in-the-field pilot projects.
For POMA, the stakes are high. The company would like to integrate the best practices they will have learned
and developed thanks to their partnership with the WWF in their future processes. In the end, POMA would
also like to be seen as an advisor in urban mobility solutions to meet the needs of the sustainable cities of the
future that wish to preserve their resources, landscapes and territories.

❚ About the WWF: The WWF is one of the largest independent conservation organizations in the world. Thanks to their active
network located in 100 countries counting the support from 5 million members, the WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation
of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature by conserving the world’s
biological diversity, ensuring the sustainable use of renewable natural resources and promoting the reduction of pollution and
wasteful consumption. Since 1973, WWF France has been working daily to offer future generations a living planet. Thanks to
their volunteers and their 220,000 generous donors, WWF France conducts concrete actions to preserve natural habitats and
species, promote sustainable living, engage with businesses to reduce their environmental footprint and educate youth. But
for change to be acceptable, it must start with respecting each and every one of us. That is why WWF’s philosophy is based on
dialog and action. Find out more about what they are doing by visiting www.wwf.org
