DANNY
AND THE
DEEP BLUE
SEA
‘This play is dedicated to everyone in the Bronx
who punched me or kissed me,
and to everyone I punched or kissed’
- John Patrick Shanley, Writer.
Danny thinks he may have just killed a guy. Roberta is tortured by a shameful past. In an explosive twist of fate, these two wounded animals meet for the first time in a rundown bar in the Bronx. They spend an emotional night together in which the seeming impossibility of self-‐healing is wrenched from the deep, violently awakening them to a surprising glimmer of hope. Breaking Bad meets La La Land, a story of two lost souls yearning to be understood, ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea’ will pull you into it’s undertow, have you grasping for air… only then to release you to the redemptive power of love. "…a wrenching love story that swept through the downtown Circle
in the Square last night like a tidal wave."
- NY Daily News
"…the play is the equivalent of sitting at ringside watching a prize fight that
concludes in a loving embrace."
- NY Times

We intend to perform an intimate version of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, presenting the show in real-‐life bar, or replica space. The performers will be utilising a Bronx accent, as per the original production, coached by a professional director, and the style will be naturalistic, but heightened when required. We believe that this story will translate well to a Brisbane audience. It’s poignant, but funny. It’s tragic, but relatable. Above all, we see this play as a love story. Sure, the romantic leads happen to be decrepit souls of the ailing underclass, but their struggle to give and receive love is beautifully universal. Our ideal audience response would be for them to see themselves in the characters, to feel and reflect, whilst ultimately finding it hilarious and heart breaking. Length
Venue Capacity Lighting Sound Approx 40 Minutes Bar (or replicate) 30-‐40 pax Some lighting may be required, or we will work within of the natural bar space. $15 $10 Adult Student Approx 35 Audience Members per show x 8 Shows = 280 Patrons. MARKETING
The majority of our marketing will take place over social media. Between the artists involved, we have an extensive professional network within the Brisbane Theatre Industry, as well as a personal network of family and friends. We aim to explore other avenues of marketing/press, such as magazines Scenstr, bmag. The West End Magazine and Peppermint, as well as other online lifestyle/entertainment organisations, including Weekend Notes and Visit Brisbane. We have strong connections to the Queensland University of Technology, and plan to offer a discounted ticket to students through their network. We are aiming to create a partnership with a Brisbane based bar or similar venue, probably in the West End, South Bank, Paddington or CBD Areas. Through this partnership, we hope to utilise the venue’s network to sell tickets, as well as encourage further patronage before and after our event. We would propose a ‘ticket + drink’ deal, available to our audience members, and would foster a partnership that benefits both parties involved. IMAGES
Below are draft versions of the marketing images we intend to use. We will be designing a hero image and all other marketing collateral, once we have finalised negotiations with our director. The final image will either be purchased and then edited (as below, without watermarks) or photographed for our production. CONTACT
