Homer Township- Volunteer Committees
Township Committees are comprised of volunteers who typically meet once monthly to act as advisors
and assistants to the Town Board in their respective areas of interest. Committee members are
appointed by the Township Board to two year terms.
Committees of the Township are governed by an ordinance of the board- “An Ordinance for creating,
naming a chairman, and approving members for the committees of Homer- REV. 8/1/11.”

Parks and Recreation
This committee assists the township in planning for Park improvements, working with local organized
sports clubs, and other local organizations. Advises the board on park needs, maintenance, and policies.

Open Space Planning and Operations
This committee serves as stewards of the open space properties owned by the Township. Assists in
Planning for improvements at the Trantina Farm and other township owned open space parcels, rental
units, historic structures, etc. Raises funds and educates on the open space program and its benefits to
the community. Makes recommendations for maintenance, uses of properties, events, etc.

Seniors Committee
Works in conjunction with the Homer Senior’s club to organize events, trips, activities, etc. Acts as
advisors to the township Board regarding issues affecting Seniors in the community.

Military Committee
Works with local organizations to support Military causes, families in the community, and memorial
sites and services.

Events Committee
Meets in subcommittees and plans and coordinates efforts for Homer Harvest Days, The Homer
Community Fest, and other Township events. Schedules and plans event entertainment, raises funds for
events, coordinates additional volunteers for event operations.

Homer Township and the Village of Homer Glen comprise membership.
