The Tortoise and the Hare
Long time ago, there was a Hare and a Tortoise.
They lived in the forest with all the other animals. One
fine summer’s day the hare was talking about how fast he
could run. He even laughed at the tortoise, who was so
slow. The tortoise asked “Do you want to race?”
“Yes, of course, Mr. Tortoise, we will race!” the Hare
laughed.
All the animals came to watch the race. The race started, and the hare, being
such a quick runner, soon left the tortoise far behind. About halfway through
the race, the Hare decided to take a break.
"Oh, my!" said the hare, "I have lots of time to rest. The tortoise is so
slow"
And so he did. He sat up against a tree and fell
asleep.
While he was sleeping the tortoise kept walking.
He never stopped, but took one slow step after
another.
Finally the hare woke from his nap. "Time to get going,"
he thought. And off he went faster than he had ever run
before! He ran as quickly as anyone ever could up to the
finish line, but it was too late. The tortoise had already
won the race and was waiting for him at the finish line.
