Recording Narration and Adding Notes for PowerPoint MAC and PC Recording Narration and Adding Notes in PowerPoint for MAC Add slides to create presentation, then go through the following steps to add narration and notes. Record Narration 1. On the Slide Show tab, under Presenter Tools, click Record Slide Show. The recording automatically starts when you enter presenter view; however, you can pause and then restart the recording when needed. 2. When you are finished recording, click Exit Show or press ESC. PowerPoint prompts you to save the timings when you reach the last slide or exit presenter view. Click Yes. 3. Review the entire presentation with the narration by clicking on the Slide Show tab, under Play Slide Show, click From Start. To review narration on each slide, roll over the sound icon at the bottom right of the screen and click on the forward button to start the audio. 4. If you wish to start over from the beginning, re-record using steps 1-2. Re-record a Slide 5. Select the slide on which you want to re-record the audio. 6. On the Slide Show tab, under Presenter Tools, click Record Slide Show. 7. When you are finished, right click Exit Show or press ESC. Review your narration in the same manner as step 3. **Trim Narration – Unfortunately, this feature is not available on PowerPoint for Mac. If a narrated slide is not how you want it, you will need to re-record that particular slide. Re-recording a slide will not affect the other previously recorded slides. Add Notes 8. Click the speaker notes option at the bottom of the screen. 9. Or, pull down the View menu, select Notes Page. 10. Click the box below the slide. Enter your notes. Save your presentation 11. Select File from the Menu bar. 12. Select Save As, name your file, then choose a location in which to save the file (Desktop). 13. In the Save as file type box, select .pptx (an editable file opens in PowerPoint Show) NOTE: You may notice a .ppsx option. This file type is designed to open in full screen presentation mode – There are known compatibility issues with this file type being saved on MAC and then being opened on PC. Please don’t use it! Record time is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. To pause the recording, right click and select Pause Recording from the menu. 3. To end the slideshow, right click on the slide, and then click End Show. 4. Review the entire presentation with the narration, click on Slide Show > From Beginning in the top menu bar. To review narration on each slide, roll over the sound icon at the bottom right of the screen and click on the forward button to start the audio. 5. If you wish to start over from the beginning, select Record Slideshow, then select Clear > Clear Timings on all Slides > Clear Narration on all Slides. Re-record a Slide 14. Select the slide on which you want to re-record the audio. 15. From the Slide Show tab, select Record Slide Show, then Start Recording from Current Slide. 16. Click the Start Recording button and rerecord your narration for that slide. 17. When you are finished, right click on the slide, and then click End Show. Alternatively, you can click on the Esc button to stop the recording. Trim Narration (Trimming will only allow you to remove audio from the beginning and end of your slide.) 18. Select Playback from the menu at the top of the screen. 19. Select Trim Audio. 20. Listen to your narration to determine where you want to trim. 21. Slide the green bar to trim the beginning of the narration and the red bar to trim the end. Select View from the top menu, then select Notes Page and add your notes. Save presentation 23. Select File from the Menu bar. 24. Select Save As, name your file, then choose a location in which to save the file (Desktop). 25. In the Save as file type box, select: .pptx NOTE: Saving the file as a presentation or .ppsx file may cause compatibility issues with MAC users.
