Parent Remarks
In regards to his personality, I’d like to say that he’s a very good and respectful person towards others. He likes taking care about
people who need it. He has a very good relationship with his classmates and teachers. He’s a generous person and pretty quiet,
however he loves joking as well as laughing. He’s almost always in a good mood. He’s very extroverted and it isn’t hard for him to
make new friends, although at the beginning, before getting confidence he could be shy. Miquel is a mature kid, as well as responsible.
Student Remarks
I’m really excited about spending a year in the U.S. My hope is that you will treat me as if I was part of your family and that we can
share a lot of moments together visiting new places and experiencing new things. I think it is curious to see other cultures. And of
course, I would like to improve my English and speak it fluently as a native speaker!
Take a moment to read the letter written by
Miquel to his new host family!
Dear host family:
My name is Miquel. I am from the east cost of Spain, I live in a not too big city. As a reference, it is
only two hours away from Barcelona.
I have never been in a host family before although I’ve already been to the United States. In 2014, I
went to Madison, WI to spend some weeks with my family and friends visiting some places like
Chicago or Mississippi River. My older sister, who is currently a foreign exchange student in Geneseo,
New York, is looking forward to stay one more year. She inspired me to do the same as her.
I’m really excited about spending a year in the U.S. My bigger hope is that you will treat me as if I was
part of your family and that we can share a lot of moments together visiting new places and
experiencing new things. I love traveling. And I am excited to eat food I have never eaten before! I also
like meeting new people from different countries, I think it is curious to see other different cultures.
And of course I would like to improve my English and speak it as fluently as a native speaker!
I am a very happy boy, I do not have any problems with my classmates or teachers, I am also a good
student. I love riding my BMX bike with friends. In Spain BMX is not very common and there are not
too many places where I can ride it. I also do padel tennis which it is not a usual sport in many
countries. It is a type of tennis but with walls around the court and you play with a pair against another
pair. I used to do Judo and soccer. I also used to practice skiing since the age of six but when I was 11,
I found it a bit boring so I decided to do snowboard. Nowadays I love snowboarding and feel free
while I’m going down the slope.
My parents are divorced and have been separated since I was one, I have an older sister and a younger
sister. The older one is 16 and the younger one is 7. The younger one is my half sister (from my dad’s
side) and I love her so much, she is really funny and we are always joking with her. I think I will miss
her so much. All of my grandparents are alive, and because they live two hours away from the city, I
only see them once or twice a month. My parents both have two younger brothers. I have 8 cousins in
total, my older sister has always been the eldest.
I know it’s going to be hard, being apart from my family and all that… But I know it is going to be
worth it. I love America and I would like to know more related to American traditions and culture. I am
really looking forward to meeting you and starting this new life with you.
Thank you of making this effort and letting me be another member of your family.
Greetings,
Miquel.
