September 7: "A Balanced View of Wealth" Frank Papandrea will speak. A clear perspective on 5 important life goals is necessary to have a balanced view of wealth. I'll address these goals, most of which have nothing to do with amassing wealth. Music: Mike Sales September 14: “Welcoming the Stranger: Transforming Ourselves” Rev. Dee Graham will speak. In a small congregation there are many customs we take for granted. “Everyone knows” why we light the chalice, which door works best on Sundays, how to find the office during the week, how to say Unitarian Universalist. Just like a family, when guests arrive we smile and behave politely, but to really get accepted they have to find a sponsor, to be adopted or mentored along by a current member. Who calls them on Monday to say thanks for coming? How does it feel to be the stranger? How does it feel when we find the stranger in ourselves? This Sunday in the beginning of our church year, we'll look at ourselves – who we are, who we want to be and why it matters how we welcome the stranger. Music: Eleanora Lvov September 21: “Of Heart Transplants and UU Spirituality” Rev. Doak M. Mansfield will speak. Recipient of a heart transplant on June 21, 2010 Rev. Mansfield, Interim Minister at Tampa UU, will share some of that story and its impact on his understandings and ministry. Music: Erol Ozsever Special Collection: F.E.L.T. (Feeding Empty Little Tummies) September 28: “Religious Humanism” Dr. Robert Tucker will speak. Religious Humanism, like all other Humanisms, is primarily focused on making this world a better place for all people everywhere. What distinguishes Religious Humanism is its positive attitude toward religion (which it accepts, supports, and promotes), and its positive attitude toward the world’s great religious geniuses, whom it esteems as worthy guides to better living. Since neither theism nor atheism is provable, Religious Humanism includes both theists and atheists. Dr. Tucker will explore this topic and its many variations; a very different look at Humanism than we’ve had in the past. Music: Nikki Lachambre
