The School Games is one of the flagship legacy programmes linked to the London 2012 Olympic
and Paralympic Games and sits at the core of the Governments investment in school sport. Financial
support is being received from the Department of Media, Culture and Sport, the Department of
Health, the Department for Education and Sport England Lottery Funding.
The School Games is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across
the country to take part in more competitive school sport.
The Games are made up of four levels of activity: competition in schools, between schools, at
county/area level and a national finals event:
• Level 1 - sporting competition for all students in school through intra-school competition
• Level 2 - individuals and teams are selected to represent their schools in local inter-school
competitions
• Level 3 – the county/area will stage multi-sport School Games festivals as a culmination of yearround school sport competition
• Level 4 – the Sainsbury's School Games finals: a national multi-sport event where the most
talented young people in the UK will be selected to compete in our sporting venues
www.yourschoolgames.co.uk
Have a great year of school sport and good luck in all the competitions you enter.

Photography Policy
Photograph & Video Policy
Introduction
Parents and school staff should not be stopped from taking photographs or video because of
concerns of contravening the Data Protection Act. However, we must always be mindful of the
need to safeguard the welfare of children. This photography/video policy is to ensure that we
manage photography and video appropriately, but also allow schools to take photos of their
children without any unnecessary restriction.
General Consent Details for Parents and Staff
• All parents/staff will be asked to sign a consent form to gain permission to take photos at an
event.
• Only school staff (not parents) should publish photographs in public places (including
websites).
• If parents/staff disagree over signing this consent, it will be treated as if consent has not
been given.
• Children who have not given consent for photographs and video to be taken will be wearing
a florescent arm band.
• Every effort should be made not to capture any image of a child with a florescent arm band.
• Photographs or video should not be taken of children changing for performances at an
event.
• The same rules apply for any images taken on mobiles phones.
• Staff and parents signing this policy will wear the sticker given to them by Event Control.
Specific Details for Parents
• Any images taken must not be posted on the web/internet unless you have permission from
the school the child attends.
• People with no connection to a school or the event will not be allowed to photograph – staff
will question anyone they do not recognise who is using a camera and or video recorder.

• Act with dignity and within the rules at all times in success & failure
• Play fairly – I won’t seek to cheat, complain or waste time
• Co-operate with and respect all officials, team mates, opponents, managers, coaches,
helpers and administrators
• Control my temper and avoid behaviour which may inconvenience or upset others
• Shake hands with the opponents and officials afterwards and thank those responsible for
organising the event
• Be on time
• Be considerate to others, particularly younger athletes and spectators
• Accept success and failure in a selfless and positive way
• Take care of all property
• Speak out immediately if concerned or uncomfortable with someone’s behaviour
• Enjoy the event and allow others to do the same
For Spectators & Team Officials/Volunteers
WHEN WATCHING ANY SCHOOL SPORTS EVENT I WILL:
• Encourage children to learn the rules and participate within them
• Never condone rule violations

Each team should include:
• A minimum of 5 boys, with a maximum of 8 boys and
• A minimum of 5 girls, with a maximum of 8 girls
Event Format
The Sportshall Secondary Programme offers an ideal format for
competition in which young people may develop their skills ahead of the
track and field season.
Team Information
School teams should consist of a minimum of 5 boys and 5 girls, with a
maximum of 8 boys and 8 girls being permitted. They may compete in a
maximum
of three track and two field events, drawn from the following:
On the track
2 Lap Individual Race, 4 Lap Individual Race and 8 Lap Paarlauf, each
requiring 2 athletes.
6 Lap Individual Race, requiring 1 athlete.
Obstacle Relay, 4 x 2 Lap Relay each requiring four athletes.
… and in the field
Shot, Speed Bounce, Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Vertical
Jump each requiring 2 athletes.
Additional Information
Team Managers are encouraged to find the running order and select their
team accordingly. It is inappropriate for an athlete to contest both the 2 and
4 lap Individual Races or the 6 lap and 8 lap Paarlauf events since they
follow immediately. There are fewer problems associated in contesting field
events in the same group and additional time will be permitted for athletes
covering two events in the field. Please note that athletes will not be
permitted to compete in bare feet or unsuitable footwear. The Sportshall
handbook incorporates details of all the events, including a full explanation
of each event together with some teaching points. Visit www.sportshall.org

Event Format
Tennis is fun, great for fitness and for developing hand eye co-ordination. It
can be played by all ages and abilities and this is a mixed boys and girl’s
competition.
Competition Information
• The serve is decided by a ‘toss’ or ‘racket spin’. The nominated player
serves the first point from the right; it then alternates every two points.
• Use ‘timed tennis’ for this format — players play for a set period of time,
until the whistle blows. Length of matches depends on time
available/amount of entries, but normally last ten minutes.
• Ensure your better player plays as Boy 1 / Girl 1 to ensure the competition
is an enjoyable experience for all involved.
• Each ‘match’ is set off to play and the final score entered onto the ‘Mini
Tennis Match Card’* and then the ‘Round Robin Box Sheet’* would either
be; 4–0, 3–1, or 2–2 — taking into account the individual results from each
of the four rubbers.
• These scores then add up to give a total points score for each team.
• Individual match points can also be tallied in case of a tie and to make
every point count.

Basic Overview
Goalball
Goalball is a fully inclusive, fun Paralympic sport where visually and non- visually
impaired pupils can train and compete equally. It can help develop communication,
teamwork and leadership skills for young people. It also helps develop key physical
skills including co-ordination, balance, speed and agility.
Goalball Simple Rules:
The object of the game is to score a goal by bowling the ball along the floor so that it
crosses the goal line of the opposing team. The defending team has to prevent the ball
going in to their goal by stopping it while remaining in their team area. They must then
try to control the ball and attack by bowling the ball back again thereby trying to score
in the other goal.
• Court: The games will be played on a modified court, marked on a badminton
court.
• Points are awarded for both attacking (scoring a ‘goal’) and defending
(blocking a ‘goal’). After a goal, the defending team become the attacking
team and the game is restarted. When the ball is thrown there are four
possible scenarios.
1. Goal (ball crosses opponent’s ‘goal line’) — game restarted by
the team who conceded the ‘goal’.
2. Block (defending team prevents a ‘goal’) — game continues and
defending team becomes the attacking team.
3. Ball thrown over the sideline — game restarted by the other team.
4. Block out (ball blocked but crosses the sideline) — game restarted
by the team which blocked the ball.
The opposition receives the ball if players do not keep to these rules.
• Players can move anywhere within their ‘Team Zone’ to throw the ball.
• Under-arm throwing/rolling only no kicking.
• When the ball is thrown, it must land before the end of their ‘Team Zone’.
• No player is to have two consecutive shots.
To block a shot, a defending player must have at least one body part (e.g. hand
or foot) touching their mat.
• Players remove eyeshades.
Scoring
• Three points are awarded for a ‘goal’.
• One point is awarded for a block.
• The winning team is the team that scores the most points within a time limit
(e.g. 4mins 30secs).

• Modified court, played on a badminton court with a mini tennis net.
• Compared to Standing Volleyball it is permitted to block an opponent's
service.
• Throughout the game, the players who are involved in a defensive
effort must have contact with the ground with some part of the body
between the pelvis and the shoulders. In certain cases of defensive
action at the back end of the court, for example while "saving the ball",
the players are allowed to lose contact with the ground for a short time.
But they are not allowed to stand up, lift up their body or take steps.
• Rotation: When the receiving team has gained the right to serve, its
players rotate one position clockwise: the player in position 2rotates to
position 1 to serve, the player in position 1 rotates to position 6, etc.

County Final
Friday 12 May

TBC
Teams are made up of four players, split into two pairs.
Setting up the competition
Mark out bunkers and water hazards and use the natural terrain such as
hedges or trees. The course should be set up on a grass or 3G surface
(although if weather does not allow, an indoor course can be set up).
It is recommended that players use the Golf Xtreme equipment (irons and
putters). Tri-Golf equipment can be used if more appropriate, however
each team should use the same equipment.
Rules of the competition
Each team starts at the same tee. Other teams of four can start at other
tees. Tee-off — each player in a pair hits two balls each (four balls per
pair). Each pair then chooses the ball in the best position to play the next
shot (fairway or green). The other three balls are collected. Both players
then hit their two shots from this ‘best’ position. The pair that takes the
fewest shots to complete the hole wins and gets two points (one point for a
draw). Players then move onto the next hole. The pair with the most points
after six holes wins. If pairs draw then a hole should be selected to run a
play off. A shot landing in a hazard such as water, a bunker or out of
bounds cannot be used as a starting point for the next shot.
Organising the Competition
Players can use a plastic tee as often as they need. Use colour contrasting
cones, spots and the natural environment to create the course, e.g. green
cones for trees; red cones for out of bounds; blue cones for a water hazard;
yellow cones for a bunker and white cones for the ‘starting tee area’. Use
flags and hoops for holes. Set up a practice hole for players to warm up on.
Give players time to familiarise themselves with the course and allow them
to make changes if access can be improved.

A minimum of 6 in a team.
Event Format
Each team has a minimum of 6 players including wicketkeeper who does
not bowl. Waiting batters act as scorers and umpires.
Each team has one innings. An innings is closed after an agreed number of
overs or all batters are out.
Normal cricket rules apply except:
Batters change ends at the end of each over.
Batters may be caught out off the ceiling and walls indoors (except the
boundary wall) providing the ball has not touched the floor.
LBW if a batter deliberately blocks the ball to prevent it hitting the wicket.
Last remaining batter may continue, changing ends as necessary to
receive strike.
A partner must run with the last batter; the side is out when the solo batter
is out or either player is run out.
A batter retires on 15 but the last scoring hit counts.
A retired batter may resume their innings when only one batter remains.
Captain tells fielders where to position. Except for the wicketkeeper, no
fielder is allowed to stand within 10 yards of the striking batter until the ball
is played.
Bowl from one end only. Over arm bowling. Only six balls to be bowled in
any over. If preferred, two bowlers may bowl in tandem, bowling alternately
to complete either a six-ball over or two six-ball overs. The inactive bowler
may not field. No bowler may bowl more than four overs per session.
The ball which follows a no-ball or wide is a free hit.
Add two runs to the team score for each no-ball or wide bowled by the
opposing team (any completed runs, zone scores or boundaries are also
added to the team score). If the 'free hit' is also a wide or no-ball that ball is
pronounced `dead' and six runs are added to the team score.

Futsal is a 5-aside game, normally played on a slightly larger pitch with
hockey sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce. It is played to
touchlines and all players are free to enter the penalty area and play the
ball over head height. As a small sided game players are constantly placed
in situations where they must receive or play whilst under pressure or in
confined spaces. As a game it places considerable demand on technique,
movement, tactical awareness and fitness.
