FOURTH JTARTERLY CONFERENCE - Barrington Methodist Church
ihursday - April 12,1945 - 8:00 P.M.
(Minister's Report)
It is with much satisfaction that I make this report after
4-1/2 years of ministry iii Barrington. The debt, which seemed
like an insurmountable barrier to progress in 1940 has been
gradually reduced so chat now all that remains is 5,000.Board
of Home Missions Loan(interest kept up todate) and about 43500.
in assessments and bonds(Assessments now in The rrocess of liquidation)The :ar clouds which had been gathering in Asia and Europe
finally made their 'way .1merica in December 1941 and we found
our Nation at Tar.Tonight the prospect of a close of ,,he 'rar
in Europe seems in sight. Fifty of our men and women from his
Church are in active service - - one of whom has given his life
for his country Edward Mitchell,Jr. In spite of 'ar and taxes
this Church has not only managed to keep its own, but to make
satisfactory progress.
7e accepted the Li uota for the r_inisterts Pension Fund and
through che efforts of Lr.John Prentice have almost reached our
goal of total payment. Of our "Crusade For Christ" uota of
01440. which was raised, 41000. has already been received in cash.
The Sunday School, under che superintendency of Mr.Lee Smiley
has shown u marked increases this year in attendance and contributions. The Methodist Youth Fellowship with rass Betty Bockelman
as President has kept a "live group" throughout the year(about 18
or 20 of iihis group-will be going co che Pre-Hi and Hi-League
r4'
Camp at Lake Geneva-Conference Point), fl'Covpi.EtCL.Dcwr sywaTmo

We have two choirs. Mrs.Dotterrer has kept a large attendance
(utilizing many of the high school girls and boys) and Ir .rs.Doeneckel;lefe'
trains the "Cadette" Junior Choir which sings about once a month. ALW'

328 in attendance at the i.orning Torship Service. 18 new members
.ere received into he Fellowship - which makes a total of 27
received this Conference Year.?here were 17 baptisms. Your
minister conducted 12 funeral services. 7e lost two of our excellent men on t-he board of trustees this year - "Bill" Dotterrer and
Charles Roselle.
-
The minister has tried to keep busy in the Spirit of Christ
"going about going good." Beside his regular scheduled activities
and calling, he katx Preached che Community Thanksgiving Sermon,
conducted services at the Barrington Rest Home during /larch, was
Chairman of che Barrington Boy Scout Coulart of Honor, Dean of the
/lid- Tinter Institute held at - aukegan on Feb.24-25, gave a book
review at the Barrington 'omens Club and spoke before the La1
Zurich Toman's Club.

As to our suture plans. Painting Contract for uhe Church has
been awarded to T.C.Gleich & Co. of Chicago, who is waiting until
he can secure satisfactory paint before proceeding with the jobprobably in I:ay or June.
'Tooden shingles have been reserved and

Church roof.
Plans are in pro g ress for beautifying
the Church and Farsonage grounds. Fis.Nellie Hammond is much interested in uhis project, which includes a Memorial Garden to 6he ITorth
of uhe Church.
The Organ Fund is increasing slowly and
I believe the time has come to make this an active project of uhe
Church.
I am happy to make this satisfactory report for his our
fifth year in Barrington. To the men of he Church goes he credit
for having placed the Church on u sound financial basis and keeping
it there. To uhe women the credit for working on the reduction of
church debt during these years. To the volunteer workers in 6he
Church and Choir and Sunday School for making our Church a vital
institution.
C.J.Doemcke (Minister)
