Netherlands Forensic Institute The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) provides a large variety of forensic services to clients within the criminal jus-tice chain, such as the Public Prosecution Service and the police. It uses the newest technologies and scientific in-sights. In this talk, we give an overview of the daily work and forensic research that takes place at the NFI's Digital Technology group. This work focuses on securing evidence from a crime scene, making digital data stored in secured evidence available to examiners and doing detailed analysis of this data. The NFI develops tools and technology to support all three stages. Erica Rietveld is manager of the Digital Technology and Biometry department of the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). She graduated in 1983 at TU/e, as MSc in Industrial Engineering. She returned to TU/e in 2004, teaching IT Governance in the MSc Business Information Systems for 6 years. She cofounded BPM/SaaS-provider Grexx in 2000 and is still a major shareholder. Erica has a broad background in subjects relating to business & IT. Harm van Beek is forensic scientist at the Digital Technology and Biometry department of the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). His work consists of performing examinations in criminal cases and conducting scientific research in the digital forensic field. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in computer science at the Eindhoven University of Technology on the Ph.D. thesis "Specification and Analysis of Internet Applications" (2005). Before joining the NFI, he was founder and CTO of ISAAC, a company dedicated to developing middle-ware and software for the Internet.
