Family Violence Prevention It’s A Workplace Matter Did you know? February 12 to 18 is PEI Family Violence Prevention Week. Family violence can affect people of any age, gender, religion or economic status. The PEI Public Service Commission is releasing Guidelines for Addressing Family Violence and the Workplace. Watch for them. Your business can take a stand, with others in the community, to help raise awareness and bring an end to family violence. Take a stand and let Islanders know that your business believes that abuse of any type is wrong. Here are some great ways to get involved: Show your colours Purple is the colour of family violence awareness. Wear purple on Wednesday February 15. Add colour to your store front with a purple display. Make a display in your store of purple: clothing, flowers, towels, dishes, office supplies, balloons, streamers….anything purple. Change up your store lighting and go purple for a day. Wear purple ribbons this week to show your support for people affected by family violence. Need ribbons? We can help! Contact [email protected] Place a Family Violence Prevention Week 2017 poster near a cash register or post an image on your digital display www.stopfamilyviolence.pe.ca/2017campaign. Get creative Make a display of family violence prevention information for your customers (hint: include some cookies and beverages to encourage people to stop). Call 902-368-6712 or email [email protected] for your information package Create a theme product for the week, a cookie or cup cake decorated with purple icing, sprinkles or a purple ribbon. Spread the word through your business network Add a family violence prevention message or picture to your business emails this week. See www.stopfamilyviolence.pe.ca/2017campaign for images. Send out a tweet. See attached list with some ideas. Include a message in your advertising to recognize Family Violence Prevention Week. Take a picture of your team wearing purple and post it to your Facebook account. Share a picture with [email protected] to be included in the Family Violence Prevention Week Online Gallery. Get active Join one of the many community walks happening across PEI and show your business’ support. Implement guidelines to address family violence in your workplace and challenge other business to do so, too. Make a donation to help people affected by family violence Hold a dress down day and collect donations for Anderson House or other organizations providing services to persons experiencing family violence.
