Learning Objectives
Handwriting/ Penmanship
Students will practice writing their names using capital and lowercase letters and
develop proper letter formation. Students will write words, forming letters correctly,
and spacing the letters properly. Students will develop proper letter formation with the
focus on C, D and I and previous letters practiced. Students will practice writing letters
during fluency timings.
Language Arts/Step Up to Writing
Students will identify letters in words. Students will identify letters in words and the
sounds they make. Students will form small words by putting letters together.
Students will use appropriate spaces between letters and words. Students will form
sentences using capital letters and periods. Students will explain their ideas and
feelings through pictures and sentences. Students will use lined paper to generate
proper letter formation.
Vocabulary
Students will enhance their vocabulary through reading comprehension activities
during read-aloud and reading groups. Students will recognize words that rhyme.
Students will connect prior knowledge with new information to build vocabulary
concepts. Students will recognize some sight words and discover words that begin with
C, D and I. Students will enhance their vocabulary by hearing, seeing and reading
words in books. Students will understand the use of plurals.
Mathematics
Students will write the numbers 1-10 correctly. Students will identify, count and make
groups of one to ten. Students will identify, order, sequence, compare and form the
numbers one through ten. Students will problem solve word problems. Students will
form groups of numbers in different arrangements. Students will group by tens and
ones during calendar math as they count the days of school. Students will practice
counting by ones forwards and backwards. Students will practice counting by fives
and tens. Students will learn about the value of coins and add coins during calendar
math.
Phonics
Students will identify letters in the alphabet and recite the alphabet. Students will
identify and analyze the sounds of the letters C, D and I. Students will isolate, segment
and blend sounds to read words. Students will isolate initial, middle and ending
sounds in spoken words. Students will demonstrate visual phonics for the letters C, D
and I to help them articulate letter sounds. Students will manipulate letters in words to
form new words. Students will count the number of words in a sentence.
Reading
Student will predict outcomes and confirm predictions. Students will connect stories to
things in their lives. Students will develop one-to-one correspondence with letters.
Students will follow repetitive language structure, demonstrate directionality and track
the words with their finger when reading text Students will identify the sequence of
events (beginning, middle and end), the characters, and the plot in a story. Students
will learn about fiction and non-fiction. Students will blend some letter sounds to read
words. Students will identify and read sight words. Students will demonstrate an
understanding of dialogue in a story.
Science
Students will describe the characteristics of living and non-living things. Students will
research animals that live in different habitats.
Social Studies
Students will discuss families and traditions. Students will work together to complete a
group project.
Music
This month the students will examine and prepare for their Holiday program
performance.
Technology
Students will increase hand to eye coordination by using the mouse. Students will type
different letters on the computer. Students will play educational games. Students will
operate a tape player to listen to stories on tape.
Art
Students will produce art as a tool for expression. Students will express themselves
through illustrations for words, sentences and stories. Students will incorporate art into
social studies and science.
Health Enhancement
This month students will demonstrate and practice both gross and fine motor skills
through basketball and beanbag manipulations.
