Case Study 2B Holly Manis 1. What is Marilyn’s responsibility to her present employer regarding her knowledge that several employees are planning to seek positions with the new company? As a supervisor, Marilyn is to report any customer or employee issues that arise. I think Marilyn should inform upper management that employees are seeking positions with the new company. The company will be better prepared when their employees put in their resignation letters. 2. How should Marilyn reply to the recruiter who is asking her to come in for an interview? Does this constitute an ethical decision for her? It does constitute an ethical decision for her. She will have to decide if working for this new company is worth leaving a company who depends on her. However, if Marilyn is honest with her current company about the interview offer, I do not believe taking a job interview is an unethical decision. 3. Is it ethical for one company to receive funds to move into an area when other companies struggle to keep jobs from going offshore or from being lost to automation? I do not think it is very ethical that this new company will be receiving money to move into an area where other businesses have failed. I believe this could portray the company in a bad manner to the community. However, if the company succeeds in the community, this could open job opportunities for locals who have lost their jobs in the businesses that have failed there. Although it may be unethical, it may provide more opportunities for people who live within that community.
