Pisani Post Issue #2

Pisani Post
October Newsletter
We successfully completed our first month! I
am so excited with all the progress we have
been making! Please remember to check your
email for updates from me! As always, if you
ever have any questions or concerns, please
do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking
forward to a great rest of the quarter!
Science Experiments
Parents, thank you so much for sending in the
supplies for our class experiment last week! The
children really enjoyed creating and experiencing
mixtures and solutions. Ask them which sense
they enjoyed using to describe the mixture’s
physical properties! Hint, I’m sure it’s related to
snack time! Don’t forget to remind them that
chemical changes occur all around them, such as
rusting, cooking, burning, chemical interactions.
See which types of changes you see in your
kitchen every day. Serving cereal in the morning
is a great example of a mixture or solution
(depending on the cereal and if it dissolves), while
toasting bread would be a chemical change.
These types of questions and discussions help
the students see the meaning behind the
vocabulary and connections to real life situations.

Tip of the Month
We have been working in class on being a
responsible classroom citizen, but this starts in
the home. Please have your child pack their
backpack at night. This will help them have a
successful start to every day!

Word Study
Word study assessments consist of 15 of your child’s
spelling words (I will pick a few words from each
column). Your child will need to know what column to
put them in, the headers, and be able to explain in a
few sentences what the headers mean. The purpose
of the explanation is to help your child see patterns
that are found in words so that they are able to spell
a variety of new words, not just spelling words!
Lunch Money
I know it can be difficult to remember sending lunch
money daily. Please remember that you can pay online
and keep a balance on your child’s account so that
they do not run low. There is a link on the RLC
homepage to add money to lunch accounts.
Apps and Devices
We have had quite the exciting experiences
getting all these devices up and running and
usable! I am learning so much about different
formats and systems. I still have a lot to learn.
Luckily, the kids are working through the issues
with me and are able to problem solve many
situations themselves! Some of the activities,
websites or apps we use are compatible with
some devices and not others. If this happens, I
rotate children through the classroom work
stations so all the students have access to the
activity. Also, there is a list of websites that your
child has accounts on my webpage. These are
websites that we use often in class.
Digital passport is a website that we will begin
using with our computer lab time. Many children
want to use their own devices for this. However,
the IOS systems and some of androids, will not
open the games and activities through the website.
You can download the app but there is a small
cost. You can choose to download this app if you
like. This will help your child access it on their
personal device from home or school. It is called
DIGITAL PASSPORT but make sure you download
the Classroom version!
