Contamination of Australian Defence Force facilities and other Commonwealth, state and territory sites in Australia Submission 103 18 December 2015 Committee Secretary Senate FADT Committee Parliament House Canberra Re: Contamination caused by firefi$hting foams at the Army Aviation Centre at Oakey Dear Sir/Madam From my reading of the recent court case in the United States concerning the effects of contamination by perfluorinated compounds and the pending case involving an action for compensation for ulcerative colitis, I am concerned about the long range effects of perfluorinated carbon contamination in the Oakey Area. I grew up on the property which now forms the heart of the designated plume of contamination in Oakey. My daughter unfortunately developed inflammatory bowel disease despite there being no history of this type of medical condition in our family. I therefore would like to draw the senate's attention to the possible long range effects of the Army's use of firefighting foam on the Oakey base and the wider application for people who grew up in the now designated plume of contamination. Yours faithfully, Edwina
