Apple Art
Draw an Apple
Tree: on a piece of
paper trace your
child’s hand and
wrist . Have them
color in the area
brown (this is the
tree and branches). Have them dip
their finger tip in red paint for apples
on their tree or use a red crayon and
draw red circles, use green for leaves.
Apple Tree Counting Activity
Draw 5 tree tops (your child can
color them green)
you can then cut
them out. Using
red circles as apples glue them on
the tree tops. You
now can practice
counting. (makes
great refrigerator art).

Routines
Autumn begins September 22
By Ada Alden, Ed.D. Network Member
Regular and routine times for
play, rest, and other everyday
activities provide a young child a
sense of emotional
security. Young children know
they have to wear a seat belt
because adults are clear,
consistent and predictable. Other
routines might include how we
get ready and go to bed, having a
special chair at the dinner table,
boxes or shelves in which to put
toys away. Parents can provide
low hooks and a mat to hold
coats and shoes near the front
door.

Autumn is one of 4 seasons
(Spring, Summer, Winter)
Tree leaves change color before falling to the
ground

Daylight is shorter
Many animals begin to grow warmer coats to
prepare for winter

Many Crops are harvested in Autumn
Change and stress are part of our
daily lives. Rituals and routines
will help decrease stress.
Teaching children how to do
things is a parent’s job. Rituals
and routines ease a child’s life
journey.
What are your routines?
Having breakfast together at the table
Picking out what to wear for the day
Kissing and hugging when saying goodbye
Washing hands before eating
Barbara Coloroso states, “Our
children are counting on us to
provide consistency and
structure. Parents provide a basic
backbone structure for children to
function.
