Starter Jordan Zimmermann (W, 4-2) threw 6.0 innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Bal•more jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a two-run homer by Chris Davis in the 1st inning and an RBI single by Seth Smith in the 2nd. J.D. Mar•nez erased the deficit with one swing of the bat, launching a three-run homer in the 3rd inning off Dylan Bundy. The Orioles briefly took a one-run lead on a solo homer by Adam Jones in the 5th inning. But the Tigers answered back again with three runs in the bo•om half of the 5th, including a two-run homer by Victor Mar•nez and an RBI double by Alex Avila. Shane Greene threw 1.2 perfect innings in relief and Alex Wilson filled in for his second save of the season. ELIAS SAYS: On Thursday a!ernoon, J.D. Mar•nez and Victor Mar•nez both homered off Dylan Bundy in the Tigers’ 6–5 victory over the Orioles. It was the 16th •me that the Mar•nez’s homered in the same game for Detroit. Only two pairs of teammates who shared the same last name homered in the same game as o!en as J-Mart and V-Mart: Andruw and Chipper Jones (59 •mes), and Brooks and Frank Robinson (24 •mes). HOT HOT HEAT: Righ"ielder J.D. Mar•nez, who returned from the 10-day DL last Friday a!er missing the first 33 games of the season with a right midfoot sprain, blasted a game-tying three-run homer in the 3rd inning yesterday to get the Tigers back in the game. It was his fi!h long ball since being ac•vated from the DL, making him first American League player to hit at least five home runs in his first six games of a season since Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria in 2009 (also 5 HR in first 6 G). The last Major League player to do so was Colorado’s Trevor Story, who hit seven homers in his first six games in 2016. Overall, J.D. is spor•ng a ridiculous 2.118 OPS through six games this season (.680 OBP, 1.438 SLG, 5 HR, 9 BB in 25 PA). I WAS RUNNING!: Despite having Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Mar•nez, Ian Kinsler and Jose Iglesias each miss mul•ple games with injuries this season, the Tigers currently rank third in the American League in runs per game (4.92, 192R/39G), trailing only the Yankees (5.79) and Astros (5.15) in that category. Detroit also ranks •ed for second in the AL in triples (9), T-third in doubles (70), fourth in OPS (.751), walks (154) & extrabase hits (126), and fi!h in OBP (.330) and SLG (.421). Bitbits™ also takes a classic formula and makes it bite-sized with crunchy peanuts covered in milk chocolate with a new twist. “This great project is the result of the hard work and dedica•on of many people,” said Cabrera. “I am very excited for my family, business partners and colleagues seeing Miggy Foods come to life, especially launching here in Detroit.
