These new flights will operate in addition to the airline’s existing service between Newark and the two Portuguese cities of Lisbon and Porto. Adding Miami to its extensive network of worldwide destinations increases the transatlantic lift between Miami and Europe by 2104 weekly passengers (2630 during the five weekly schedule increase in peak summer months). This new route strengthens TAP’s presence and expansion in North America, while solidifying their commitment to Miami as an important hub through which to capture passengers and cargo from diverse regions, including Central America and northern South America. With the introduction of its nonstop route between Miami and Portugal, TAP provides the South Florida market nonstop access to its modern hub airport of Lisbon, Europe’s most western entrypoint gateway. TAP’s flights from Miami to Lisbon will be the shortest transatlantic crossing of any carrier to Europe (taking only 8 hours). From Lisbon, TAP Portugal is able to offer connections to all major destinations in Europe without having to geographically “backtrack”.
