School as you await the coming of Christmas. The activities, we hope, will appeal to
your child and will be easy enough for you to do together at this very busy time of
year. Wherever possible, we have included all the materials you will need.
It is our sincerest wish that this gift will help you and your child create some
wonderful family memories and in turn, the gifts created will bring joy to someone
elseʼs life.

Ice Ornaments
1. Fill foil pan with water.
2. Add a piece of string (make sure it
is long enough and properly
submerged.
3. Place items such as berries,
leaves, pine sprigs in the water.
4. Place outside overnight to freeze.
5. Hang on trees.
Variation: Add food coloring to make
colourful ornaments for the tree.

Ice Balloons
1. Fill up balloons with water and drops
of food coloring (optional).
2. Place carefully outside to freeze.
How you place them will affect the
shape they freeze in.
3. Freeze until about 80% solid, if you
are to going to make a candle
lantern.
4. If you have food colouring, use dark
gloves to cut away the balloon, so
the food colouring doesnʼt stain your
gloves.
Christmas Bird Feeder
You need:
lard (not Crisco)or peanut butter
bird seed
pinecone
long piece of twine
or:
Plastic container
popsicle or craft sticks
Soften lard in microwave (do not melt)
Mix equal parts lard and bird seed.
Tie craft sticks together in a t
shape with twine. Loop and
thread through a hole in the
plastic container. Put the mixture
into the container and pat down.
Roll pine cone in lard and
birdseed mixture. Refrigerate for
several hours. Take out of mold
and hang.

Lacing & Weaving Activities
Have your child decorate and lace the stocking, to help develop hand coordination. If your child enjoys
this, cut out pictures from magazines, colouring books and catalogues and back with bristol board or
construction paper, punch holes and attach yarn.
You can also have your child weave the ribbon through
Christmas wrapping paper or use a rack like the one
shown here to help them practice
their fine
motor skills.
Playdough and Playdough Mats
Enjoy this special holiday “hot chocolate” and peppermint playdough.
Use the playdough mats to make special holiday pictures.
Recipe:” Hot Chocolate” Playdough

2 cups plain flour (all purpose)
1 cup salt
1/2 cup cocoa

2 tbsps vegetable oil

2 tbsps cream of tartar

2 cups of boiling water
•
4 drops of glycerine (optional extra for increased shine and stretch)
Add wet ingredients to dry gradually, mix and need well. If it is too sticky, add flour and if it is too dry add water
slowly.
Add 2 T. of peppermint extract and red Jello package for Peppermint playdough and include sparkles for glitter
playdough.
Cards ,Tags and Wrappings
Make some wrapping paper, cards, and gift tags. Decorate some tins, bags. Recycle the bag given
to you by having your child draw some seasonal artwork on it.

Strawberry Santa
Put 3
marshmallows
on a wooden skewer. Add chocolate
cookie and Rolo or Mini Peanut Butter cup
to top and stick with icing. Add chocolate
chip eyes, fruit roll-up scarf, pretzel stick
arms, and M&M nose and buttons.
Rice Krispie
Follow directions to
make regular Rice
Krispie squares.
Mold into funnel and
wrap with tinfoil.
Add a message with
on white strip of
paper.
Use cream cheese & icing sugar
mixture or used whipped
topping.Use a toothpick and
melted chocolate to make eyes.
