TechBA Seattle
Introduction
TechBA Seattle has created a program to help you grow your business by accesing
global markets. The Boot Camp in Seattle focuses in Business-to-Consumer products in
the various technology sectors and we will help you to identify a viable business for your
company. If you are a product company or a service company that wants to define a new
product this is the right program for you. In just 5 weeks you will explore the market
potential, develop an effective business model, prototype, and talk to potential customers
and investors.
Each week you will learn how the US market works and apply the lessons to your
product. An experienced mentor will help you each step of the way. Also, each activity is
carefully designed to engage you in an exciting experience starting each day with a clear
goal. You will learn how to quickly achieve them, and make great progress each day. At
the end of the day, the group comes together to discuss what went right and wrong using
a peer to peer review.
The program includes five main areas:
Background Learning. Learn how great companies are built and understand the power of
innovation and entrepreneurship culture in Seattle.
Customer Development. Discover the tools to find customers, gain early feedback on
your product or service, and develop a strong pricing and go-to-market plan.
Business Model Design. Build a sustainable business model, and review your concept
with experts, peers, investors, and a sample of potential customers.
Monetization, find the right channel and strategy to increase your rent and become
profitable.
Metrics and Scaling. Learn how to track growth, and discover the metrics which are truly
important to your business. We will also show you how to scale your business model.
Customer Acquisition. Reach your target customers, and discover how to do all this on a
startup budget using low cost resources.
All content will be delivered by experts and you will be able to apply concepts through
networking events.

BOOT CAMP CLOSING THROUGH VALIDATION MEETINGS
Validating Business Model Hypothesis
An hypothesis validation will be generated from previous weeks. Companies will have meetings
within the following three areas: key prospects as potencial clients and merger candidates,
influencers, and competitors. Meetings will be arranged by both, the assigned consultant and the
participating companies. Companies should be prepared to begin the meeting with an
introduction.
Depending on the sector, some companies will conduct validation meetings at the SXSW (South
by Southwest 2013 in Austin, Texas).

Description of Activities
Product Innovation Fundamentals
The title “Product Innovation Fundamentals” is descriptive of the combination of lessons
through the week, applicable to all product innovation, whether in larger companies or in
startups. The premise is that product insight must be grounded in a clear understanding
of the customer, their needs (and pain) and a hypothesis of how the product addresses
that customer and their needs. The methods we teach bring rigor to the process, and
emphasize testing of each hypothesis with real users at every step.
-
LeanUX Workshop
Introduces the concepts of product definition through the user’s point of view, with
tools and methods that will be used throughout the week.
-
Storyboarding MVP, and Pitch
Expands on the LeanUX ideas to develop product use cases and Minimum Viable
Product definition and the pitch.
-
Meet Seattle
We explore the Seattle startup scene, and run a fun event to introduce the Seattle
area, transportation, and tech culture.
-
Customer Development
Customer Development, Hypothesis testing methods, and Customer Validation.
Mentoring / Coaching sessions.
-
Lean Startup Review
Tie together the lessons from the week.
Lean Startup
http://theleanstartup.com/
User Experience (UX) techniques help you to understand customer/user needs and
goals, envision compelling products, and identify strategically viable releases. In
traditional waterfall development, the bulk of this work was done up front in a discrete
design phase. Design work was thorough, expensive, and static once the project moved
on to development.
Lean and agile approaches to development allow for more just-in-time, continuous
design thinking. Lean UX is a framework for effectively integrating user experience best
practices to clarify product vision and increase the effectiveness of iterative
development.

Boot Camp 2013
TechBA Seattle
This workshop will introduce the Lean UX framework and include participatory exercises
in crafting Personas, Scenarios, and Storyboards. We will discuss strategies for effective
communication with customers/users, lightweight ways to test design hypotheses, and
how to identify Minimum Desirable Products for targeted releases.
Product, Technology, Market, Business Model, Resources and Distribution.
After the Lean Startup Sessions, Boot Camp companies will receive training and
coaching on a business case generation by sector basis. Different concepts will be
analyzed and studied such as product, market, technology, resources, business model
and distrubution. Companies will be advised in theory and practice. At the same time,
you will develop goals and objectives based on your own business case. As part of the
second TechBA program, companies are asked to submit their deliverables which
consits on a business plan that will be reviewed and analyzed as a separate business
case per company. Companies will also attend local events in the Seattle area.
