Chebeague Transportation Company Passenger Fare Policies Following are the current passenger fare policies. Please contact the Business Office or General Manager with any questions or comments. Commuters/Frequent Travelers Commuters are defined as individuals who travel to or from Chebeague on a frequent basis for work or other purposes. (That is, they can be commuting from Chebeague or to Chebeague). Commuters receive reduced fares. Weekly commuter books or passes are sold for weeks beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday. Each book or pass is valid for ten (10) one way trips. In order to qualify for the commuter rates, the person must commit to traveling daily for a period of at least four (4) weeks. Tickets or passes must be used in the week purchased. Holiday week commuter books or passes are available during weeks containing legal holidays. A commuter will be able to buy either the regular ten-trip book or a "short-week" eight-trip book for a reduced rate. The holiday weeks which qualify for the reduced tickets : New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Unused, expired commuter tickets or passes may be redeemed with the deckhand at the rate of 20 tickets for one new commuter book or pass. Residents/Annual Parking Permit Holders Persons who reside on Chebeague Island at least seven months per year and who vote (or are eligible to vote) on Chebeague, and their spouses, receive reduced fares. . Persons (and their spouses) who purchase annual parking permits at either the Route One or Cousins Island lots are eligible to receive reduced fares. Stockholders Persons who are stockholders of Chebeague Transportation Company receive reduced fares for themselves and spouses. Children Children under the age of six (6) are not charged a boat fare. Children between their sixth birthday and their twelfth birthday will receive a reduced children’s fare. Children age of twelve (12) and over must pay adult fares. Reduced fares are available as follows: Resident children receive reduced resident fares until their eighteenth birthday or separation from secondary school or college, whatever occurs last. Children of annual parking permit holders receive reduced parking permit holder fares until their 18th birthday. Children of stockholders receive reduced stockholder fares until their 18th birthday. Children traveling to and from community related group activities (T-ball, Little League, Senior League, AAU basketball, AAU soccer, AAU intermediate baseball, etc.) may travel at no charge. If the children participating in a particular group activity require a chaperon, one chaperon may travel at no charge for each group of children. If there are too many children to travel in one vehicle on the mainland, or if the children are going to different destinations on the mainland, an additional chaperon for each vehicle or destination may travel at no charge. 03/31/2011 1 Chebeague Transportation Company Passenger Fare Policies School Children School children (grades 6-12) fares are paid by the Chebeague Island School Department (CISD). The CISD/CTC agreement covers travel to and from school and school related activities. Parents accompanying children to school related activities are also covered by the agreement. School children (grades 6-12) visiting Island children can use a Resident ticket supplied by the Island child’s parent or guardian. Students traveling to and from school related extracurricular activities (hockey, baseball, softball, band, school clubs, etc.) may travel at no charge as provided by the school contract. In addition, parents, family members and school volunteer attending such school functions with the student may also travel at no charge. Companion Travel Persons traveling to Cousins Island and returning to Chebeague on the same trip to chaperon young children, handicapped, elderly, or ill people may travel at no charge. Guide Dogs Guide dogs travel at no cost. Funerals and Memorial Services When funeral or memorial ceremonies are held on Chebeague Island or are held elsewhere for someone who is to be interred on Chebeague Island, parking fees and boat fares are waived for all attendees on the day of the ceremony. Also, there is no fee for the transportation of the remains. Medical Emergencies Persons traveling from Chebeague to the mainland during a medical emergency (rescue) will not be charged a boat fare. Persons accompanying the injured person will also not be charged a boat fare on the trip from Chebeague. However, a boat fare will be charged when returning to Chebeague. Health Care Workers Health care workers traveling to Chebeague will be charged the same rate as Commuters. Commuter books or passes for health care workers expire one month after issue. Health care workers will be charged $5.00 per day at either the Blanchard or Route One parking lot. Persons with on-going Medical Treatment Off-Island Persons who are receiving on-going medical treatment that requires frequent trips to the mainland will be allowed to travel at no cost for those appointments. Contact the Business Office for requirements to qualify. Depending upon the situation, a companion may also be permitted to travel at no cost. Persons visiting ill Chebeague Residents Family members regularly visiting an ill relative on Chebeague may purchase commuter tickets on a consecutive basis (not just at the beginning of the week) and without need for a four-week travel commitment. Contact the Business Office for more information. Persons from Chebeague visiting ill family members in a hospital or rehabilitation facility. Family members from Chebeague regularly visiting an ill relative in a hospital or rehabilitation facility may purchase commuter tickets on a consecutive basis (not just at the beginning of the week) and without need for a four-week travel commitment.
