PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, AHEPA members are proud of the contributions the ancient Greeks gifted to Western Civilization. As Americans, we share many of the values put forth by them; civic responsibility, philanthropy, education, family and the ideals of democracy; and WHEREAS, the AHEPA Family works as a unit toward the fulfillment of a common mission. Together with three affiliated organizations; Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena have contributed over a billion dollars to national projects throughout their history; and WHEREAS, a component of AHEPA’s mission is to create an awareness of the principles of Hellenism to society; and WHEREAS, these principles include a commitment to humanity, freedom, and democracy; and WHEREAS, the preservation and promotion of these ideals is where AHEPA has, and always will be, deeply committed; and WHEREAS, The City of Tarpon Springs recognizes the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association in Tarpon Springs and its existence since the early 1902s, currently residing in the AHEPA Home at 20 West Tarpon Avenue. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Chris Alahouzos, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Tarpon Springs, Florida, do hereby proclaim May 21, 2017 as AHEPA DAY IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Tarpon Springs, Florida, to be affixed this 16th day of May, 2017. _________________________ City Clerk & Collector ________________________ Mayor
