Market Comment
Cotton futures saw another quiet trading session as the market continues to vacillate in the 57-58 USC area. The
lead May contract finished 42 points lower yesterday to close at 57.38, extending the streak that began on March
11th where every close for the May contract has fallen in the range of 57-58.50 USC. Tuesday’s total trading
volume of 15k contracts was only moderately higher than the 14k contracts which we saw trade on Monday, and
together mark the lowest volume trading sessions we’ve seen all year. Traders await the release of the US Cotton
Planting Intentions report later this week, and we will also see the beginning of index fund rolls out of the May
contract and into the July contract start in a few days.
