(Dr. Crippen) 10:00 AM—Possible surgical complications. (Dr. Alarcon) 10:25-10:30 AM—Brief phone and coffee break. 10.30 AM—Timing, benefit of tracheostomy, financial issues. (Dr. Crippen) 10:40 AM—Anesthesia for PCT. (Dr. Gomez) 11:00 AM—Timing, benefit of tracheostomy, financial issues. (Dr. Crippen) 11:15 AM—Post head & neck surgery airway care, types of Trach tubes. Mathew Geltzeiler M.D (ENT) 11:45 AM—break for lunch. 1:00 PM—Percutaneous tracheostomy cadaver lab. Notes: Total of five (5) cadavers, intubated orotracheally. Students 1 through 5 will operate under the direct guidance of a surgical instructor. Students 6 through 10 will manipulate the bronchoscope so all the procedures will be clearly visible in real time by the operating student and instructor. On completion, students 1 - 5 will man the bronchoscope while students 6 - 10 perform the procedure through different incisions. Dr. Crippen will teach both the bronchoscopy guided and non-bronchoscopic free style. At the end of the procedures, Dr. Crippen may (anatomy permitting) demonstrate emergency percutaneous tracheotomy and dissect the necks of the cadavers to reveal the pertinent anatomy.
