Dear Parents, Staff and Children,
Grants
Earlier in the year, I applied for a grant through the Lord Mayor’s Charitable
Foundation in partnership with Sunbury Community Health. I am extremely
pleased to announce that we have received a grant of $5000 which will go
towards the development of our fitness track around the perimeter of the oval. We
are very grateful to Sunbury Community Health as they have now, on many
occasions been instrumental in assisting the school to access resources. The fitness
track project is being led by the Environment sub-committee for School Council
and we are very keen to get these works underway. Funding for this project has
also been supported by family contributions towards our Building Maintenance
Fund.
Flagpole
We are also very pleased to have received a grant for the re-establishment of our
flagpole. The new flagpole was delivered last week and now flies the Australian,
Koorie and Victorian flags. Positioned at the end of the Hub, adjacent to the
playground, it is a central feature to the schoolyard.
Award
Congratulations to Jane Clendenning, who received the ‘Best Adoption of QKR’
Award last week. Nominated for no less than two awards, we were more than
happy to receive one trophy for the great work that Jane has done in establishing
this payment option for our parent community. Thankyou to all parents who have
adopted this platform for making payments as it has assisted in the streamlining of
procedures.
Parking
Unfortunately, we are still experiencing problems with parents parking in
unauthorised areas. This problem is now stemming into the community where we
have received complaints from neighbours about parents parking across
driveways. They have indicated that should the problem continue, they will contact
the authorities.
We have also had a parent parking across the driveway to the dumper on Cornish
St. This has resulted in complaints from Cleanaway, not to mention the $200 we
spend a month, not to have the bin emptied when the truck arrives.
Children on Scooters
Our school’s Wheeled Recreation Policy states that children can ride to school after
completion of the Bike Ed Course at the end of Grade 4. Whereas some younger
children ride scooters to school accompanied by their parents, road safety rules
should apply at all times. Children must wear helmets and must be under the direct
supervision of parents. This means that the parent should be in arm’s length of the
child at all times. Children do not fully develop peripheral vision until the age of
about 14 and are therefore at greater risk should cars pull out of driveways, etc.
Young children are also not equipped with response mechanisms or the capacity to
pre-empt the many possible dangers that are present during these peak travel
times.
