WRU Head of Physical Performance WRU National Women’s Rugby Manager WRU National Match Officials Manager WRU Women’s Head Coach WRU Women’s Medical Team/Physiotherapists/Coaches Overview To effectively co-ordinate and implement the delivery of all aspects of Strength & Conditioning support to members of Wales Women’s national squads with reference to the WRU Elite Player Physical Development Model (EPPD) Ensure S&C service delivery at national training camps and in competition To both improve existing, and cultivate satellite S&C coaching & facility networks to support women’s program Implement and run the National EPPD testing battery of strength Job Description/WRU Womens S&C Coach/Oct 2014 JOB DESCRIPTION and conditioning tests as required throughout the season Oversee S&C service support program to Match Officials program in consultation with National Match Officials Manager. Provide data on the WRU Elite Match Officials to IRB lead on S & C at predetermined times of the season. Strengthen and evolve the current match officials training programme Assist the NA S&C coach with implementation of selected elements of the WRU National player pathway through delivery of coaching CPD events and by overseeing and co-ordinating specific pathway programs as required to support elite men’s game. Co-ordinate and organise TID events in conjunction with WRU National Women’s rugby manager and coaching staff Key Outcomes Demonstrate a methodical and systematic ability to plan and coach physical development in all the key areas of athletic, functional & technical development (as measured against EPDP Physical Development Model benchmarks of testing/assessment) Demonstrate administrative ability in the performance enhancement area by keeping accurate and up to date records and providing punctual information as requested by relevant WRU staff Within Women’s Program Development of sports specific physical qualities of Wales Women’s international Sevens, 15s and development squad members with the overall objective of preparing these players to train and compete at highest level. In-conjunction with the WRU National Women’s Rugby manager establish long term plans for each individual player with regular, timely review periods, and rehabilitation programmes to address any issues that impede the player’s physical development or recovery. Adhere to National testing protocols and use National Fitness Database to monitor and report on trends and developments within all relevant squads. Assist in establishing a positive professional culture within the Women’s program in adherence with the WRU standards & values Inside International campaigns Effectively design and implement a periodised Strength & Conditioning programme for Wales international Women’s programs in consultation with WRU National Women’s Rugby manager and WRU Women’s Head Coach Implementation of all PPD (Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition, Sports Science and recovery modalities) as per the National PPD protocols Within Match Officials Program Ensure the timely running of IRB mandated physical performance testing protocols in consultation with National Match Officials Job Description/WRU Womens S&C Coach/Oct 2014 JOB DESCRIPTION manager Provide direct service support to identified Elite Match Officials with regards to strength and conditioning to ensure attainment of IRB mandated fitness standards Co-ordinate nutrition program support to Elite Match Officials Where appropriate identify and facilitate appropriate communication methods, including workshops, to inform and educate non-elite Match Officials in the effective use of strength and conditioning Other Co-ordinate implementation of National EPPD testing battery of strength and conditioning tests with identified player pathway squads from men’s game as part of annual program auditing in conjunction with WRU Compliance staff Pathway coach education and curriculum development tasks as required Assist WRU at all requested testing days as required (Academy, NAG, Seven’s, Senior National Squad) Ensure maintenance of all WRU issued equipment, commitment to protection of all private athlete information and WRU work resources, and adherence to data protection and research guidelines as outlined by National Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach and HR Implement and reinforce the WRU Code of Behaviour and Conduct expected of WRU staff and players Duties & tasks as directed by the National Academy Strength & Conditioning Coach and/or the WRU Head of Physical Performance Continued Professional Development The WRU are committed to providing CPD for the successful candidate. We expect the successful candidate to undertake available training courses and research to enhance personal knowledge, skills and experience as well as complete specified CPD tasks as directed by National Academy S&C coach. Attend relevant training courses/seminars/workshops as required to assist with CPD as directed by the Head of Rugby Performance and Development. PERSON SPECIFICATION Experience Skills & Qualifications Essential Minimum of 3 years full-time experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach Desirable Experience working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with both female and male elite athletes, particularly in a team sports environment Essential A qualification at degree level (or equivalent) in sports science or related area specializing in the area of physical preparation of elite athletes Desirable Job Description/WRU Womens S&C Coach/Oct 2014 Other Key Competencies UK Strength and Conditioning Association Accreditation, or ability to obtain it within 6 months Excellent IT Skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Skills & Qualifications Valid UK driving licence is required.
