Upon your arrival this evening, your local host meets you and escorts you to your hotel. Day 2: Lima Lima’s colonial and modern highlights are revealed on today’s sightseeing. See the Plaza de Armas, City Hall, the Government Palace, and the Archbishop’s Residence. Visit the Cathedral and the San Francisco Church. Tour the modern garden suburbs of Miraflores and San Isidro. Later, you will visit the Mujica Gallo Gold Museum to see its fine collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, and the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History. Day 3: Lima-Flight to Cuzco Board a morning flight to Cuzco, the archaeological capital of South America. At 11,200 feet above sea level, a small adjustment to altitude may be necessary. Upon arrival, you are met by your local host and escorted to your hotel. Your afternoon sightseeing reveals the Plaza de Armas, Plaza del Regocijo and the Old Town. Visit the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Monastery and the Inca Korikancha Temple upon which the Spaniards built their Monastery. Drive outside the city for visits to the Incan Remains of Tambomachay, the Kenko Amphitheatre, Puca Pucara Fort, and the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman where the Incas once held important religious celebrations. Tonight, enjoy an Andean Dinner and Traditional Peruvian Folklore Show. $ Day 4: Cuzco-Pisac-OllantaytamboUrubamba Valley Today, you will travel through the “Sacred Valley of the Incas” to Pisac to visit the colorful Indian Market Fair. After an included lunch, visit the Ollantaytambo Inca Fortress. Spend the night in the Urubamba Valley where dinner is on your own. Day 5: Urubamba-Machu Picchu-Cuzco Board the Vistadome Train en route to Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas,” South America’s best-known archaeological site unearthed by American Hiram Bingham in 1911. Visit the beautifully-preserved ruins of this enormous stone city hidden by a grand terraced mountain plateau. After an included lunch, you’ll board the Vistadome Train to return to Cuzco, where you will be on your own for dinner this evening with the assistance of your host. Day 6: Cuzco-Andahuaylillas-PiquillactaCuzco Today’s excursion from Cuzco takes you to the Spanish colonial town of Andahuaylillas to visit the Church of San Pedro, known as “the Sistine Chapel of Peru.” After an included lunch, you will journey to Piquillacta to see the remains of this pre-Inca Wari culture city. Return to Cuzco where dinner is on your own. Day 7: Cuzco-Flight to Lima-PachacmacLima Fly to Lima this morning. Upon arrival, enjoy free time for lunch before taking an afternoon excursion to the Pachacamac Ruins and Museum, once considered one of the holiest shrines in all of the central Andes.
