Bottom Line: Jesus is there when I need Him.
Memory Verse: “You are everything I need.” Psalm 119:57, NIrV
Bible Story Focus: I can ask Jesus for help.
The Lepers • Luke 17:11-19
Make It Fun (Introductory Activities, 10 minutes)
1. Count the Boo-Boos
What You Need: “Count My Boo-Boos” Activity Page, red pom-poms
What You Do:
Before the Activity: Give one “Count My Boo-Boos” page to each child. Place the red pom-poms in
the center of the tables.
During the Activity: Hand out an Activity Page to each child participating in the activity. Point out each
of the men and count the boo-boos together. Encourage the children to place a red pom-pom on each
of the boo-boos and count them again.
What You Say:
During the Activity: “Take a look at the men on your page. It looks like they have some boo-boos.
Let’s count their boo-boos together. (Point to each man and count together.) Now let’s place some
red pom-poms to show their boo-boos and count them again.”
After the Activity: “Great job counting the boo-boos! In our Bible story today, we’ll hear about some
men who had some really painful boo-boos. But I think there is someone who can help them! You’ll
find out soon!”
2. Bible Story
Read “10 Lepers” on pages 405-408 in The Beginners Bible.

Make It Stick (Application Activities, 15 minutes)
1. Craft Stick Man
What You Need: Jumbo craft sticks, red dot stickers, BAND-AIDs, “Lepers Story Label”, “stick man”
What You Do:
Before the Activity: Give each child a “Leper Story Label,” 2 “stick men”, a craft stick and a bandaid
and glue sticks. Place red dot stickers on the table.
During the Activity: Talk about the men who met Jesus that were sick with boo-boos. Ask the children
to place red dot stickers on ONE side of the craft stick man. Then ask them to flip their craft stick man
over to the opposite side and place the BAND-AID on one end and the “Leper Story Label” on the
other.
What You Say:
During the Activity: “In our Bible story today, we learned about some men who were very sick. They
had a lot of boo-boos. Let’s color our people with boo boos and then glue one on each side of the
stick. Now put these red dots on one side of our craft sticks to show the boo-boos. (Pause and help
children that need assistance.) Great job! Who helped the sick men in our story today? (Pause.) Yes!
Jesus helped them. Let’s turn our craft sticks over and place the BAND-AID on one end and the label
on the other end.” (Demonstrate.)
After the Activity: “Your craft stick men look awesome! Great job, everyone! You can take these home
and tell your mom or dad or grandma or brother or sister about what we learned today. Jesus was
there to help the men who had boo-boos. And Jesus is there when we need Him too! Who is there
when you need Him? [Bottom Line] Jesus is there when I need Him.”
2. Books of the Bible
What You Do:
Review the books of the Bible, Matthew – 2 Thessalonians, with the children. Practice saying them in funny
voices (whispering, squeaking like a mouse, etc.), motor activity (jumping, marching, etc.), or with hand
motions (clapping, chomping like an alligator, etc.).
What You Say:
“OK, now we are going to learn the New Testament Books of the Bible. Do you know who we learn
about in the New Testament? That’s right! We learn about Jesus! Let’s practice! Matthew, Mark, Luke,
John, Acts, Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1&2
Thessalonians. Can you say it with me?”

Make It Real (Small Group – Application & Prayer, 5 minutes)
Small Group Time
What You Need: “Memory Verse Card,” prayer journal and a pen.
SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): “In today’s story, we learned that we can ask Jesus for help.
Remember the men with all the boo-boos in our story? No one else wanted to help them. The people
thought their boo-boos were yucky and they were scared to get close to them. But guess who wanted
to help them. (Pause.) That’s right! Jesus! Jesus wanted the men to ask Him for help. And Jesus
wants you to ask Him for help too! Jesus is there when we need Him and there’s no problem too big
or too little for Him. Who is there when you need Him?
CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] “Jesus is there when I need Him!”
SGL: “Which is so great, because the Bible verse we’re learning this month says Jesus is everything
we need.
“You are everything I need, Psalm 119:57.
“Stand up and let’s say that together with the motions. Here we go!”
CHILDREN and SGL: “You are (point up) everything (hands out to sides) I need (point thumbs to
chest), Psalm 119:57. (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with the motions several
times together.)
SGL: “You sound awesome! I am so proud of you! Now let’s sit down and write in our prayer journal.
Today we’re going to ask Jesus to help us with something. It can be anything! Jesus wants everyone
to ask Him for help with anything, anytime they need it.
“So when I say your name, I want you to tell me one thing you want to ask Jesus to help you with and
I’ll write it beside your name. We can use the list when we pray.
(Open prayer journal and hold your fun pen. Write each child’s name and what they say beside their
name. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the
letters. ** Be prepared to follow up if a child shares a need for help that requires talking with a church
director, pastor or parent.)
“This list is a very special list. I hope you always ask Jesus for help when you need it. Would anyone
like to pray before I pray?
(Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.)
“Now I will pray.”

Prayer
SGL: “Dear God, thank You for giving us Jesus to help us. Thank You that Jesus wants us to ask
Him for help no matter who we are or what we need. Nothing is too big or too little for Jesus! My
friends and I made a list of things we want to ask Jesus to help us with. Please help [child’s name]
with (read what that child listed). (Repeat for each child in your group). And thank You again for giving
us Jesus and that He is always there when we need Him. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Art Description: Create a landscape style page
with a simple outline of five men. On each of the
men, draw a different numbers of boo boos (1
to 5 ) on each man. The children will place small
red pom-poms on each boo boo so make them
far enough apart to accommodate small pompoms.
Text: None
I would think color only so the boo-boos are
visible.
