Our Catholic Identity: On Monday this week, our end of the day prayer featured this poem
from e.e. cummings—a poet famous for not capitalizing anything—but he capitalizes references
to God. His work is both simple and childlike, and full of very deep understandings. When the
sun sparkles on the snow, or the soft flakes fall, as they did Tuesday, are we not reminded of His
amazing love? At the request of our third graders, who LOVED this poem, here it is to pray with
your families!
i thank You God for this most amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings; and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any - lifted from the no
of all nothing - human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened) – AMEN!
IMPORTANT CHANGE:
Catholic Schools Week is coming up soon – January 25- 31!
School Mass that week will be on TUESDAY at 8 AM, rather than on FRIDAY. This will
allow our students to focus on the Liturgy on a “dress up” day in their “Sunday Best.” Friday
will still be the Pep Rally for God starting at 1:30 PM. We hope this helps facilitate the crazy
cool outfits you are planning for the Pep Rally that might be distracting at Mass!
Parish News:
The first Soup Supper of the year will be held this Saturday, January 17 from
4:30-6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Please invite your friends, grandparents,

benefit the Young Adult Faith Formation Committee. Make plans to attend and
make your Saturday a "Souper" Day! Any questions or concerns please call
Mary Ellen Wittmann at 788-3180.

Home and School: The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 21 at 6:30 in the Teacher’s

Dutchman Difference: What are the Dutchmen Difference
expectations for arrival and dismissal? The DD expectations
for arrival and dismissal are: line up quickly and quietly when
the whistle blows; leave promptly at the end of the day; dress
for the weather; line basics; obey supervisors; body basics;
walk bikes, scooters, and skateboards on school property; use
crosswalks and sidewalks; follow Christ’s example; accept
challenges and responsibilities; inspire wisdom; thank God by
sharing our gifts; help others.
From the Guidance office:
The annual “St. John Penny War”, sponsored by the Builder’s Club,
will be held from Jan. 12th-16th. Each day, a reward will be given to
the classroom that collects the most money on that day. A reward
will also be given to the classroom that collects the most money
overall! Dollars (and checks) and pennies add to a classroom’s
total! Silver subtracts from another classroom’s total! All proceeds
from the Penny War will be used to help pay for much-needed eye
surgery for a student at our sister school in Citlaltepec,
Mexico! Thank you to everyone who continues to support this
project year after year! It certainly shows how a little bit of spare
change can make a big difference in changing lives!
SAVE THE DATE! The Little Chute Area School District will be holding an “Internet Safety”
presentation for parents on Monday, Feb. 16th from 6-7:15 in the High School Auditorium. More
details will be in the newsletter at a later date!
