POST EVENT REPORT THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY. TODAY. 7 - 8 June 2016 Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Host Partner Innovation Partner Organised by www.emtechhk.com EVENT OVERVIEW EmTech Hong Kong 2016: Bringing the Tech World Together in Hong Kong For over fifteen years, EmTech has introduced the innovators and emerging technologies that are poised to reshape industries and change the world. Launched at the MIT campus in Boston, the premier conference on business and technology has grown into a global community, with events held annually in Brazil, France, Singapore, USA and, most recently, Hong Kong. Throughout the year, MIT Technology Review, the world’s oldest and most respected technology publication since 1899, uncovers and explains the significance of the emerging technologies poised to disrupt existing industries, create entirely new markets, and change society. MIT Technology Review’s award winning editorial content is brought to life at the EmTech conferences held around the world. The very first edition of EmTech Hong Kong, held on 7-8 June 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, proved to be a big success. 439 participants attended the event coming from countries such as China, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK, USA and Vietnam, to discuss the latest trends in emerging and disruptive technologies. Opened by the Honourable John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, the event was a showcase for the emerging technologies with the greatest potential for commercial impact and an access point to the most innovative people and companies from around the world. A carefully curated programme brought together the experts at the heart of the technology revolution. Over two days, multiple speakers delivered content in a rapid-fire format of 15 minutes per presentation in addition to engaging panel discussions and fireside chats. The themes explored emerging technologies and innovation in IoT, healthcare, robotics, artificial intelligence, future cities, manufacturing 4.0 and FinTech. EmTech Hong Kong celebrated the launch of the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node, an incredible MIT initiative deepening MIT’s links to Hong Kong, Shenzhen and China’s Pearl River Delta. The Node was launched by MIT Provost Martin A. Schmidt, followed by Fiona Murray, co-director of the MIT Innovation Initiative; and Charlie Sodini, faculty director of the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node. EmTech returns to Hong Kong in June 2017.
