Primary purpose of the role
Manage the day-to-day provision of high quality, professional and timely Sentence Administration service
delivery within a correctional operational area, to key stakeholders including correctional centers, court
complexes, Community Corrections staff, the public, and government and non-government agencies from
NSW and external jurisdictions.
Key accountabilities

Provide advice on and deliver individually and as part of a work team, high quality and efficient
specialist correctional administrative services in Sentence Administration and related areas.
 Monitor and control Sentence Administration procedures, operations, and activities, ensuring absolute
accuracy of information; compliance with legislative and policy requirements; and the promotion and
maintenance of a high standard of service delivery.
 Provide advice and recommendations to senior management to ensure sound decision making on
administrative functions, practices and procedures, via the preparation of reports and statistics, and the
completion of compliance checks. .
 Ensure that staff are trained, developed and are conversant with current procedures, and that best
practice is followed by staff at cluster facilities and corporate units.
 Develop and maintain effective systems and processes in line with legislative and policy requirements
for the effective operation of all sentence administration units and work areas. Resolve enquiries from
internal and external stakeholders, relating to the administration of sentences and orders in a timely
and professional manner.
 Prepare and edit a range of written material including Briefing Notes, submissions, reports, and
specialized correspondence such as jurisdictional transfers on behalf of the business unit for review by
senior management and internal and external stakeholders.
 Establish and maintain communication networks and provide prompt detailed advice and support to key
stakeholder within the Criminal Justice system, including but not limited to: Community Offender
Services, Court Escort Security Units, Court Registries and Correctional Centre Management Teams,
and interstate and Federal authorities.

Respond to legislation changes and operational demands by contributing to the continuous
improvement and development of sentence administration procedures, documents and resources
including the Sentence Administration Manual, business unit task lists, and electronic templates and
guidelines. Ensure effective management, including human resource, logistics, financial and budgetary
management within the Cluster or head office business unit.

The role is responsible for decisions relating to staffing issues, including recruitment action, within the
provisions of CSNSW policy, Public Sector wide policies and relevant legislation.
The role is also responsible for the allocation of resources within the team and negotiation with other
managers within Sentence Administration and Department of Justice for staff members to work across
different areas.
